Discord Server

Hey everyone,
This is just a short message to let all users know that we now have a Discord Server. This server has completely replaced the Wiki "Chat" feature, so that will no longer be available.
You do need a Discord account in order to chat in the server (don't worry, Discord is 100% free of charge). You can chat on Discord by clicking the "Connect" button on the right hand side of the Wiki under the "Discord" widget.
This will open a new page in your browser where you will be prompted to join the room (or make a new account if you do not have one). You can also download the app on your PC or your Smartphone device so you can chat with other members of the wiki on the go.
I hope you enjoy this new feature!
Thank you!

Soulcalibur VI - New Timeline Categories

Hi everyone!
Due to the fact that Soulcalibur VI takes place in a new timeline, anything related to the new timeline (characters, stages) should be categorised correctly.
The easiest way we have decided to do this is to categorize the pages by adding "NT" (New Timeline) in front of different categories. For example, a character that appears in the new timeline will have this category on their page:
NT Characters
So, please be sure to add NT in front of "usual" categories so we can separate information from the original timeline and the new one.
Other categories would include;

NT Males
NT Females
NT Swordsman Characters
You get the idea.
Thank you!

Soulcalibur VI Character Pages

Hi everyone!
So, it has now been officially confirmed that Soulcalibur VI is a reboot. So, this means changes to the pages of characters who appear in the game will be changed -this could also extend to changes of the pages for Soul Edge and Soul Calibur-
We're going to use a format similar to that of the Mortal Kombat Wiki, wherein we use the {{Tab Template}} to separate the "Original Timeline" info and the "New Timeline" info.
So, for example: Sophitia's page will have the Tab Template displayed like so:

Original Timeline

New Timeline

So, everything under "Original Timeline" will obviously have information about all events during that period which is Soul Edge - Soulcalibur: Lost Swords. The "New Timeline" will have all information to do with Soulcalibur VI and most probably any future games in the series.
This change will take effect immediately. So from now on, all information that has to do with Soulcalibur VI aka the New Timeline will be stated under the New Timeline tab. So, do not add information to the regular pages and for any new character that is announced, make sure to use the Tab Template and create the New Timeline section.
Also, as mentioned before, it might be a good idea to extend this to the pages for Soul Edge and Soul Calibur (The weapons, not the games) as their backstory and history might change within the story.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Thank you!

Editing Soulcalibur VI - Adding a ref

Hi everyone, now that Soulcalibur VI has been officially announced, I would just like everyone to know that when editing the page (as in adding a new character, plot details, changing something major) make sure to follow the rule of putting an edit summary.
On top of that, and more importantly, due to the fact that this is an upcoming game, if you are going to add a new character for example, make sure you leave a ref on the page, not in the edit summary.
I'll be going back onto the page to add a ref to the trailer next to the confirmations of Mitsurugi and Sophitia. So please make sure you do this for any new information you add to the page, otherwise your edit will be undone!
Thank you!

Wiki Redesign - Soulcalibur VI

With all the hints and rumours going around about Soulcalibur VI and the possible announcement coming soon, it will be time for the wiki to have a major redesign once again!
Depending on what the logo looks like - as our design is usually based on the logo of the latest game and the general theme of the game - the wiki will be designed with that in mind.
So, what do you want the logo to look like? How would you like it to reflect on the general theme of the wiki and our Facebook page?
Let me know in the comments below!

A little warning about the redesign:
A wiki redesign takes time! There will be some errors and most probably a few different designs and changes before a final one is settled on. This means, as you're scrolling through the wiki, you may notice some big or small changes as you browse through different pages and reload.
Don't worry if this happens, it will just be the process of the redesign. Also, a redesign can break some infoboxes and text. This is due to the fact that the wiki could possibly switch from a dark theme to a light theme, or something inbetween. This means infoboxes may look strange (as with a redesign, they will be changed too) and text may appear invisible for a while. So please don't worry! In the end, it should all look great!
Thank you!

Edit Summaries & Reliable Sources

Hey everyone!
So, the Wiki is becoming more active now which is a good amazing thing! However, I just want Users (new and old) to know a general rule about editing.
Seems that more users are editing pages, I just want to remind everyone to always put an edit summary when you're editing ANY canon page! No matter how small the edit is, always, always put a summary! This is stated in the welcome message (new users will see this), in Editing rules and common mistakes and on the Community Messages board which is seen to the right of the Recent Wiki Activity page. So you really can't miss it! From now, if you edit a canon page (by canon I literally mean anything that is actually in the Soul series) without putting a summary you will be given a warning to do so; you could be an amazing editor but you still need to put an edit summary and follow these rules. Ignoring a warning could lead to further punishment.
Secondly, if you're going to edit something about a character (their story, height, weight, voice actor etc), or the story of Soulcalibur in general then you must provide a reliable source showing why the information has been changed! If you don't provide a source your edit will be undone and if you undo that edit again without providing a source and enter an edit war then you will be blocked.
That's about it really. We encourage more people to come to the Wiki and edit our canon pages, and make fanon! You just simply have to follow the rules that are in place!
If you have any questions or issues just write a comment below.
Thank you!

New Character Infoboxes

Including the current default infobox, I have made another two. One takes the coding from {{Profile}} and the other is the brand new Wikia default infobox.
I have made a page showing all three; the current one, the {{Profile}} one and the brand new Wikia default one.
I want users to choose which one we should use, or if we should just keep the current one. Don't worry ether, whatever one is chosen will replace the current one so you will not have to update your fanon or canon character pages. Another option is to use a new infobox specific for canon and/or fanon characters instead. It's your choice! So let me know below!
To see the infoboxes please go here.

Content related to the technical side of the game (is there a need for it here?)

Is there content on this wiki related to technical aspects such as frame data, combos, punishes etc.? I know there is on 8WR, just wondering if there was a place for that here. I can help provide some of that information if people wanted some here.
If not then that's not a problem. I see most of the content here is descriptive on character backgrounds/plot/history etc., so what I'm suggesting might not be worth adding.

Require ALL contributors to log in

Hi everyone!
So, recently and a lot in the past anonymous users have been a pain to the Wiki by simply spamming on pages by inserting false information, inserting nonsense and the like. This becomes very irritating for Administrators and for everyone else too. Sometimes anonymous users will come along and edit your fanon or userpage, it's happened in the past where an anonymous user has deleted all information on a users fanon article. There have also been times in the past were anonymous users have deleted everything on the main page or completely changed all the information to the main page of Tekken Wiki instead. Recently there has been some editing wars going on between Administrators and anonymous Users as well as unlawful blocking.
Not to mention but when an anonymous user edits a page they tend to have not read any policies and so tend to break a lot of rules which is just a hassle for everyone.
So, I propose a solution to this. There is an option that I can enable where ALL contributors must sign in. This means no more anonymous Users! Every person who wants to edit on this Wiki must create a Wikia account, so if someone was simply coming to the Wiki to spam they would have to create an account just to do it (and I doubt they would go through the effort to just simply spam) but if they did they would be easier to monitor and block.
So that is my proposition. Please discuss below as a consensus must be reached before any changes are made (See our Voting Policy).

Discussion has ended.
I am satisfied that we have met a consensus of requiring all contributors to have a Wikia account in order to edit a page. The settings will now be changed and all contributors will now need to sign up in order to edit. No more anonymous users.

Introducing: Metabox

Hello Users of the Wiki! Today I would like to introduce another new feature to the Wiki: The Metabox.
The Metabox is basically just a new global way to handle notice Templates, like {{FanCharOwnership|<Your Username>}}.
It's an easier way to group things together. Don't worry, the majority of Templates will keep the same name, it will just have the new Metabox coding instead.
There are different types of Metabox, the generic ones are: admin, info, notice, feature, delete, cleanup & fan (there's also many other types that will produce the same Metabox, for example both "fan" and "fanon" will produce the same metabox).
Here is a fan metabox, using the type "fan":

I'm a Fanon MetaboxUse me on Fanon pages!
The Metabox is also completely customizable! You can use the raw coding to create custom Metaboxes! For example, this uses no type:

Hi, I'm a Custom Metabox!I'm a custom Metabox in custom colours too!
I will be updating certain Templates soon to use Metabox instead. However, I have a few questions for you!
1. Should we merge all types of Fanon Template into one? Instead of having four different types of fanon Templates just have one that will cover all types of fanon. All of them will be the same colour using Metabox anyway.
2. The default colours of each "type" of Metabox are unfinshed. The majority of colours are just placeholders. So I want you to chose what the coulors should be! Take a look at the default colours by going to Metabox/doc and let me know in the comments below what colours you want the Metaboxes to be!
I will keep you all updated.

IMPORTANT: Soulcalibur Wiki - Re-brand/Partnership

Hello members of the Wiki! As you can see from the title the Wiki is about to go through some changes! The Wiki is going to be re-branded/partnered up with Soulcalibur Community from Facebook! This means that Soulcalibur Community will be the official Facebook page for the Wiki, and we also plan to expand onto other Social Networking websites. The partnership could result in the Wiki being renamed or Soulcalibur Community being renamed.
The reason we are doing this is to try and expand the Wiki onto other Social Networking sites in order to try and garner a wider audience. Our goal is to try and attract more fans of the series to this Wiki (and the Facebook page) in an effort to make the Wiki more active again, as well as to try and attract more people to the Soul series in general.
We chose to partner up with Soulcalibur Community for a few reasons:

Soulcalibur Community posts the latest news in the Soul series (sometimes even before the official Soulcalibur Facebook page does)
It has over 670 likes and keeps growing almost everyday
The people who "Like" the page interact with the page a lot, sharings things the page posts
Some posts the page has made has reached over 2,000 people across the globe. The majority of posts usually reach hundreds
I made that Facebook page, so I have the main connection from the page to this Wiki
As you can see, re-branding the Wiki with Soulcalibur Community can be very beneficial as the page already has a wide audience across Facebook, while this Wiki is bound to Wikia only. So, you may be wondering "Why not just make a "Soulcalibur Wiki" Facebook page?" well the answer to that is simple: The Wiki is pretty much dead (sadly). Making a page, and trying to expand the Wiki that way will most probably be unsuccessful as the Wiki itself doesn't have many active members, so making a new page on Facebook probably wouldn't help the Wiki much or expand very much. Our goal is to try and get more active members and expand the Wiki's names across Social Media.
With this re-brand/partnership some things will change on this Wiki. For example, the Home page is getting redesigned to look more appealing for a new audience. And like I mentioned before, the Wiki may be renamed (or vice versa for Soulcalibur Community). And a few other changes like the implementation of Featured articles, fan articles, users etc (which has been planned for a while). There isn't any major changes planned at the moment, the Wiki will still work exactly the same and the overall theme will stay the same (most probably). However, like I have said there will be a few changes but as the changes are being made you will be informed! With the re-brand we could really do with some new Administrators who can be active! If you're interested in becoming an Admin please see Requests for Adminship!
I know some members won't like this idea, however we hope you will adapt to the change and see the positives: trying to make the Wiki grow, expand our audience, attract new people to the soul series etc... We do hope you are as excited for this changed as I am. We thank you for continuing to use the Wiki and adapting to the changes already made. It's a new generation of Members, Admins and Soulcalibur Wiki in general! Feel free to ask any questions you may have and share your thoughts! And remember:

Crack Down on the Rules

Hey everyone. I have been discussing with fellow Admin LightningSakura and we came to the conclusion that the Policies of this Wiki have not been getting enforced and followed properly! So there is going to be a hard crack down on all the Policies now!
The new team of Admins and I have been very lenient with the Rules of Fanon and other general policies, well no more. We are cracking down and there will not be anymore chances. The Rules of Fanon explicitly state "Three strikes and you're out" and that is going to be enforced! The other policies have their own Rules for banning which will be followed also. There will be some changes to the Rules of Fanon and maybe the other Policies in the near future. On the subject of the Rules of Fanon let me say this: They are there -like all the other rules- to be followed! Many new Users of this Wiki don't bother to read any of the policies, and many longtime Users think they can add any sort of fan page they want. Well, this Wiki is primarily for canon not fanon. Fanon pages are a privilege, and User must know that. The Rules of Fanon state the types of fanon that can be made here is "Fan Characters", "Fan Games", and "Fan Universes" that's it! No "Fan Weapons" no "Fan Stages" nothing, just the three fanon types that the Rules of Fanon state. Any fan weapons, fan stages, or anything else that is not listed as being allowed will be deleted in the coming days.

Should Charade be the new Nightmare?

This is just a theroy Should Charade become Nightmare. I mean Charade was apart of Nightmare in ii and onwards he could be the IV Nightmare since Inferno is stuck in the Astral Chaos in the form of Soul Embrace. Charade could have been apart of the Nightmare armor and his soul would animated it.

Wiki Redesign

Hey everyone! So soon the Wiki will be going through a major redesign. Obviously, with a redesign comes challenges and what not. The Wiki is going to look like this:

I have tested already and there are some things to work out. For example some templates will be showing up completely white which looks, well ugly against the blue background.
The main page will also look a bit strange at first as the colours of some titles blend in and the Poll and such is on a white background. All this will be fixed ASAP. At the moment, I'm the only one who knows how to edit and change CSS codes, which is the place where we can choose certain specfic colours of Templates and such, so if anyone else knows how to edit CSS Code let me know because the more help the better! So when I change the colour of the Wiki, we will have to make-do with the odd colours and such until it is fixed. However, if it proves to be too much of a challenge, then the redesign will be undone but the current background image and logo will stay.
EDIT: Seems that I am nice, and upon request I will do this Poll.. However, note that the current background image and current logo will stay!

With those results in mind, the Wiki will keep the current design!

Main Series pages: Named wrong?

The main series pages seem to be named wrong. They are named as follows; Soul Calibur, Soul Calibur II, Soul Calibur III etc... However "Soul Calibur" refers to the spirit sword "Soul Calibur". Whereas "Soulcalibur" refers to the games in the series.
So, should we rename the pages to Soulcalibur, Soulcalibur II, Soulcalibur III etc? Seems that that is the right was to write the titles of the series.

Introducing New Gaming Footers

Game Footers

The new game footers are brought to you by Encyclopedia Gamia and our very own Games Hub. The basic goal is simple: draw together Wikia communities in one location that enjoy the same genres and hopefully expose them to some new games and communities they might be interested in. Our secondary goal is to try and connect editors looking for help with members and administrators from other wikias who are interested in helping them out, whether it be with content, technical knowledge, or insight gleaned from running a community.

How do I get my site included in the Wikia games footer?

If you haven't already been approached, feel free to include your site in the submission section below in the genre you feel is most appropriate for the game you cover. Note that, with rare exception, a game should only be placed in one footer.
Here are some other things to consider:

A member or members of the site should be willing to help those that might ask for assistance in creating their own wikia. Obviously this is at member discretion; members aren't absolutely required to answer every request for help, nor should they if the query is unrealistic and/or no one has the know-how.
Any site participating in the footer will have a page created on the Games Hub for their franchise for more exposure. Members are encouraged to double-check this entry once it is live and may take ownership of the page.
Any site participating in the footer will have each individual game in their franchise created on Encyclopedia Gamia for more exposure. Members are encouraged to double-check these entries once they are live and may take ownership of the pages.
Backgrounds are transparent and links/text are set to match the site's settings.
The new footers are mobile-friendly.
Though intended to stretch the entire width of a main page, the footer can also fit into the left rail, if so desired.
My game's genre isn't included.

In most cases a game can fit into multiple categories, so the best should be chosen when possible that most closely matches the genre. Rogue-like games, for instance, aren't included because many games feature stealth elements. Instead, they can be found within the Action-Adventure footer.
Should the situation arise where another footer is potentially needed, one may be created, but only if 1) the genre can't be included in any other category and 2) there are enough games for the footer.

I already have a footer.

For footers that were created and maintained by Wikia staff, these will be replaced with the new footers.
Footers created by users will not be touched at this time.

Submit your site!

Using as sources

I know in the past, the previous Admins said not to use as canon, reliable sources. However, I believe it should be used as it is the official website for Soulcalibur. Also, most of the information over there has been changed/retconned, most probably in preparation for Soulcalibur VI.
So what do you all think? Should we use as canon information and reliable sources?I vote yes.
