Ares, also known as Palgaea, is the Greek God of War, who is trying to take possession of Soul Edge for his own purposes. He commanded the Grand Priest of the Fygul Cestemus sect, Kunpaetku, to create a golem to help find him. Although Kunpaetku created Astaroth in hopes of taking Soul Edge for himself, he didn't know that Ares, to assure Astaroth's loyalty, implanted Keres, the Agent of Death, inside him.

Palgaea (Ares, God of War)
The patron deity of the malevolent cult, Fygul Cestemus.
Before Christianity took root in Europe, he was worshipped as the god of destruction along the coast of the Black Sea. Revered by an indigenous religion that would later become Fygul Cestemus, he was eventually adopted into the Greek pantheon as Ares, god of war.
Originally a group of fragmented sects, they joined together to resist the religious suppression carried out under the rule of King David. Calling themselves Fygul Cestemus (The Guardians of Truth), they named their god Palgaea, meaning "the Executioner."
In 1583, Palgaea first answered the prayers of the cult after witnessing Sophitia's battle against Soul Edge. Sophitia had received power from the blessings of the Olympian gods, of which Ares (known to the cult as Palgaea) was one. Seeing the sword's power, Palgaea tasked his cult with obtaining the cursed sword.
It is little wonder the evil sword, whose strength could match any weapon of Olympus, would capture the interest of the cold-hearted and selfish god of destruction.

Trivia[]

  • In the God of War series, Ares is killed by Kratos in the first installment, who then goes on to take Ares' mantle as the Ancient Greek God of War. That doesn't influence the Soul series in any form.
