"Fear the name of the dread Captain Cervantes!"
— Cervantes

Cervantes de León (セルバンテス・デ・レオン, Serubantesu de Reon) is a character in the Soul series of fighting games. Cervantes made his first appearance as the main antagonist of Soul Edge and has returned in all of the games. He also appears in Soulcalibur Legends as an unplayable boss. In Soul Edge and in Soulcalibur he is nicknamed "The Immortal Pirate" and "The Dread Pirate" by other characters.

What lies in his soul is Corruption.

In Soulcalibur V's promotional material, he is referred to as The Great Pirate Resurrected.

Appearance[]

Cervantes was designed to be something of a ghost pirate. Starting with Soul Edge, Cervantes had peach skin, long white hair with a violet tint and blue eyes and sported a full mustache. His attire consisted of a traditional pirate captain's uniform. When under the influence of Soul Edge, his skin gained an unnatural purple tint and his eyes turned yellow with the scelera turning black. He retained this appearance with very minute modifications into Soulcalibur. After returning from the dead as a specter, his skin even paler than before and his eyes purely white, although his mustache has grown past his cheeks and reaching his hairline. His attire had also changed to feature lighter colors and armor with the additions of gauntlets and greaves and wore a new jacket loosely on his back.

In Soulcalibur III, his skin pigment became a light purple and his hair turned fully white and becoming spiky. His appearance showed off more skin to reveal impressive musculature with his facial hair now fully forming a long beard. His clothing was now similar to his earlier appearance but has also taken on a purple, more darker sheen, and his gloves are now the same color.

In Soulcalibur IV, his appearance seems to have been even further corrupted than before, with claw-like shoulder pads with purple eye decorations with an additional one on his hat and his coat becoming wing-like with segmented metal linings.

As of Soulcalibur V, Cervantes is mortal again and his look is similar to that of his original Soul Calibur appearance, his hair and skin's pigment returned to their natural color, although he keeps his facial hair and hair length. His clothing returns to a more traditional appearance but now features a red and black color scheme and a Jolly Roger emblem on his boots and belt. His coat opens up to reveal his bare chest, showing off chest hair. His bonus costume on the other hand, gives him a suit of armor but his physical body appears to give off a fiery glow and aura with his face seemingly internally consumed by fire, resembling Soul Edge to an extent.

Biography[]

Soul Edge[]

Cervantes' father, Phillip de Leon, was a privateer sent on a special mission from the Spanish king to loot in the name of Spain. One day, he sailed closely to an English ship with intent to loot it, only to find out too late that it was a warship. He was taken by surprise, his ship was destroyed, and he died along with it. Cervantes was devastated. Cervantes grew up full of pride over his father who was a great sailor, but became a notorious pirate because of his father's death.

He decided that if that was what happened to sailors that swear allegiance to Spain, he would forsake it and become a pirate. One day, he received a message from the "Merchant of Death," Vercci. It was a request to find Soul Edge. At first Cervantes dismissed the offer, but finally accepted since Vercci was the merchant who gave him the artillery for his ship. After a year of searching, Cervantes found information pointing to an antiques dealer with a "strange article". There was no specific evidence that said article was Soul Edge, but Cervantes was a pirate, and could find some use for the ship's goods even if Soul Edge was not there. Cervantes attacked the ship, and nobody heard from him again for more than twenty years. He obtained Soul Edge from within his efforts and it eventually drove him mad as it had devoured his own soul and caused him to go into a psychotic state of insanity, leading Cervantes to slaughtering his own crew under the dark and malevolent power of Soul Edge itself. His insanity made him kill anyone who had came seeking the sword for their own reasons. Li Long was the first to confront him in an attempt to possess Soul Edge, but was defeated by him thanks to Soul Edge's own overwhelming power. Realizing that he was not strong enough to defeat Cervantes, Li Long had decided to make an immediate escape, with Cervantes pursuing him in an attempt to kill him and absorb his soul. However, Li Long successfully fled from the scene of the battle. In the end, the combined efforts of Sophitia, Taki, and Siegfried had led to both Cervantes' defeat and supposed death, but as it turns out, this was not the end of Cervantes.

Soulcalibur[]

Nightmare, the new master of Soul Edge, unknowingly resurrected him using the fragments of Soul Edge still lodged inside Cervantes' body, but all his memories of his past life had vanished. Once again, Cervantes seeks the demonic blade with renewed fervor and strength. Over the course of the next three years, Cervantes sailed in a ghost ship, plundering and maddening ships across the world, as his memories gradually returned, along with the desire to search for Soul Edge again, even though he knew it had robbed him of his free will.

Soulcalibur II[]

During Cervantes' search for Soul Edge, he realized that the second sword had been shattered as well when he found a few shards of the second sword. He pondered as to whether or not Soul Edge had been definitively conquered, but at that moment, the shards melded together on their own to create a bigger piece of the sword. For the next four years, Cervantes began his quest to steal souls and collect additional fragments. Eventually, they took the form of a legitimate sword. Cervantes' new goal was to regain Soul Edge, and to do that, he needed as many of the fragments as he could find.

By making use of the fragments of the cursed sword within his body, Cervantes succeeded in preserving his own will. With Soul Edge and the Adrian, he devoured the souls of brawny men of the sea.

Soulcalibur III[]

Cervantes sailed around his homeland of Spain, seeking souls to sustain both himself and his half of Soul Edge. But one day, the presence of the other half of the evil sword suddenly disappeared, and he himself began to crumble. Cervantes then realized that the fragments of Soul Edge that were sustaining his life were slowly losing their power.

Then Tira appeared on board the Adrian with a huge flock of ravens, claiming that she is a servant of the evil sword. She tells Cervantes that a powerful entity has appeared, and it was the one who temporarily destroyed the other half of Soul Edge. Then Tira leaves. Cervantes did not plan on sharing the same goal as hers, but he had to destroy the entity in order for him to stay alive.

Soulcalibur IV[]

Over time, Cervantes had consumed so many souls that he was able to create an army of the undead. He had even planned to devour the sweet soul of his own daughter, Ivy, in order to gain an even larger amount of power, but he could not locate his daughter's whereabouts. Soul Edge was now free from the seal of Soul Calibur, and his own sword was responding to this. Cervantes had no other choice but to let it go. But once Soul Edge regained all of its power, Cervantes will claim the sword for himself.

So he picked up an old sword that he used long ago, and even this sword soon became evil. With such great power, Cervantes was sure that no one can stop him.

Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny[]

(Non-Canon)

In the Gauntlet storyline, Cervantes' soul is required as payment for Ivy to create a potion for Hilde and her party to cure her father. Though they attempt to renegotiate, they are forced to find and take Cervantes' soul by force.

Soulcalibur V[]

Cervantes traveled to Ostrheinsburg in order to reclaim Soul Edge and devour the sweet soul of his daughter, Ivy, but it was Ivy herself who foiled this plan. In doing so, his daughter not only reclaimed her own soul, but also all the souls he had ever devoured. His body beaten and his mind shattered, Cervantes was swallowed by a dimensional rift opened by Soul Edge.

Years later, as the 17th century dawned, strange rumors began to stir among the men of the sea. They spoke of a giant ship with a skull on its bow, captained by the legendary Cervantes. No one truly believed it, of course —more than half a century had passed since the great pirate last stalked the Atlantic.

What they didn't know —what they couldn't have known— was that Cervantes had broken free of Soul Edge's control, and escaped from the other dimension. He had returned to his world at the height of his powers.

"I'll make damn sure those fools remember the name of Cervantes, Lord of the Seven Seas!"

Of this world once more but no longer bound by its rules, Cervantes set sail once again...

Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul[]

(Non-Canon)

Cervantes is confronted by the player and Cassandra at the Adrian Fortress. Although the player manages to defeat the pirate, he/she collapses after the battle.

In-game Profile[]

Cervantes grew up full of pride over his father who was a great seamn, but became a notorious pirate because of his father's death.

He obtained Soul Edge, and it eventually drove him mad as it devoured his soul. His insanity made destroy anyone who came seeking the sword. Cervantes' reign of terror continued for over 20 years until Sophitia and Taki defeated him.

But this was not the end of Cervantes...

Nightmare, the new master of Soul Edge, brought Cervantes back from the dead. Once again, Cervantes seeks the demonic blade with renewed fervor and strength.

Soulcalibur II[]

Under the influence of Soul Edge, the dread pirate Cervantes slaughtered his entire crew and fed off of the souls of swordsmen whom dared to venture forth to challenge him.

But one day, a holy warrior sent by god destroyed one of the demonic blades, and Cervantes' body was consumed by hellfire.

His soul, however, was not freed by the destruction of his corporeal form. The pieces of Soul Edge buried in his body resurrected Cervantes.

He had lost most of his memory, but it eventually came flooding back. Along with his memories came back the desire to possess that great power once again. Although he recalled the loss of his free will to the power, it still appealed to him. Cervantes began to seek the fragments of the sword, only to realize that the second sword had been shattered as well.

He picked up several pieces of the newly created shards and gazed upon them. Was his desire to possess that power again for naught? That was when Cervantes sensed something strange. Two pieces of the sword in his palm began to resonate with his body and began to melt into one.

Four years passed. He took the souls of the strong and found new pieces of the sword to increase the power of Soul Edge. In time, the fragments assumed the shape of a sword and began to emanate an evil aura.

His ultimate goal was the revival of Soul Edge. To accomplish his goal, he needed as many fragments of the evil blade as he could find.

"He shows himself sufficiently, although his whole body does not appear, which in all likelihood no human eye ever beheld..."
-Erik Ludvigsen Pontoppidan, Natural History of Norway

Cervantes de Leon...the dread pirate who terrorized the Atlantic and struck fear into even the grandest of naval fleets. He ceased to exist as a human being the very moment he grasped the male and female swords—Soul Edge—in their original form before they lost their power. His body became nothing more than a puppet of the two swords…a servant until the day his body rotted away to nothing.

That was Cervantes’ fate. He slaughtered his entire crew and stained the streets of his home port with the blood of its people. In the twenty-some odd years that followed, his body and soul were under the control of Soul Edge. And during this time, he took the souls of swordsmen who, drawn by the rumors of Soul Edge, ventured forth to challenge him.

The demonic blades were in a dormant state at that time, so they did not thirst for massacres to satisfy their appetite for souls. But this was only temporary—it was only a matter of time before the dark storm of death terrorized Europe. And Cervantes’s destiny was to stand in the eye of that storm, with both blades in hand.

But the course of Cervantes’ fate was greatly altered before Soul Edge awoke from its dormancy. A holy warrior—sent by a god fearful of Soul Edge—destroyed one of the demonic blades during battle. By losing its companion blade, Soul Edge lost its natural equilibrium and overcompensated its powers to combat another foe. Cervantes, Soul Edge’s host, was a casualty of that encounter. Only the fragments of a Soul Edge on the verge of losing control of itself were left behind. Hellfire that burst forth from the demonic blade devoured Cervantes and turned him into ashes...

Cervantes’ soul was not freed by the destruction of his corporeal form, however.

Some time passed before Soul Edge’s new host appeared before Cervantes’ ashen remains, which now appeared no different than any others’. As the host brought Soul Edge near the remains, the fragments of Soul Edge that cut into Cervantes’ flesh at the moment of its destruction began to resonate. No one knows what Soul Edge’s thoughts were when it sensed the resonance, but it and its new victim moved on…

In the meantime, Soul Edge’s shards came to life and began to move around Cervantes’ remains. After a day had passed, Cervantes stood tall again amidst the ruins. And thus, Cervantes returned to this world.

But there were only a few fragments embedded in Cervantes’ flesh. Although he was resurrected, his mind was not whole. He had lost his memories. Cervantes barely remembered the name of his good ship, the Adrian, from his days as a pirate—his ship was now a half-derelict vessel anchored at port…

Cervantes lived amongst the ruins, unable to remember his name. But he disappeared eventually from the ruins.

Yes, he remembered one night while standing in the middle of a storm. He recalled a memory of attacking a ship in a storm just like that night. The loot he took from his hapless victims. And the two swords he held in his hands!

When all of Cervantes’ memories returned, so did his desire to possess that great power once again. Although he recalled the loss of his free will to the power, it still appealed to him. The man who was resurrected by the fragments of the evil blade sensed the resonance of the other blade. Surprisingly at first, the signs of the other blade were scattered in various locations. But this was to be expected, given that one of the blades splintered into many fragments when it was destroyed. Besides, parts of the demon blade resided within his body as well.

Cervantes set out to follow a strong sign of the evil blade, but as he closed in on that sign, he sensed that Soul Edge’s presence was splintered even more. “It couldn’t be…” thought Cervantes when he arrived at the location of the evil energy. His premonition was correct—the other Soul Edge had been shattered as well!

He picked up several pieces of the newly created shards and gazed upon them. Was his desire to possess that power again for naught?

That was when Cervantes sensed something strange. Two pieces of the sword in his palm began to resonate with his body and began to melt into one. He immediately reached out for another shard… That piece joined the other piece as well. Cervantes realized that the fragments within him caused this resonance to occur with the others. He also sensed what must have been the cry of joy that rose from the sword fragments within him. At that moment, he knew very well what was necessary to restore Soul Edge’s powers.

Four years passed. He took the souls of the strong and found new pieces of the sword to increase the power of Soul Edge. In time, the fragments assumed the shape of a sword and began to emanate an evil aura in proportion to its physical size. But unlike the first time Cervantes held Soul Edge, this time he was able to wield the demonic blade without ceding his will to it—the pieces of the sword within him gave him this ability.

Finally, Cervantes possessed his own Soul Edge. He would probably not sit idly by while strong souls and pieces of Soul Edge gathered together. Now that warriors around the world were compelled into action because of the Soul Edge fragments, Cervantes’ desires must have been reawakened again as well.

When and where will he appear from the darkness with his evil sword in hand?

There is only one person who can answer this question...Cervantes himself[1]

Soulcalibur III[]

In-game Profile[]

By making use of the fragments of the cursed sword within his body, Cervantes succeeded in preserving his own will. With Soul Edge and the Adrian, he devoured the souls of brawny men of the sea.

One day, when he had moored his ship in an opening in the cliffs in order to avoid the stormy waves, the presence of the "other" Soul Edge that he had felt up until this time suddenly disappeared. Then, his body began to crumble! The fragments of the cursed sword within his body were losing their power. As things stood now, he would soon return to the form of a charred corpse.

"Wow, looks like you're in trouble!"

Turning to the source of the sudden voice, Cervantes found a flock of black birds and a girl in green at the top of the mast.

"Who the hell are you?!"

"I guess you could say that I'm a servant of the cursed sword."

Cervantes grew angry at the overly cheerful girl, but listening to her words, he learned that a power equal and opposite of Soul Edge had sealed it...

After the girl disappeared from the mast and into the darkness, Cervantes thought to himself.

He had no intention of binding himself to a shared objective with the girl, but he had no choice but to maintain his life by absorbing new souls, and while doing so, destroy the enemy of Soul Edge and revive the cursed sword that had been sealed.

His obsession for souls flaring, Cervantes set out into the stormy sea.

Soulcalibur IV[]

Once there was a dread pirate who, upon claiming Soul Edge, became a creature of pure malevolence. Though defeated once, he managed to return to life through the intervention of the cursed sword's fragments. He gathered more and more fragments until he had enough to form one great weapon, formidable enough to be called a second Soul Edge. But one possibility had eluded him: the spirit sword, Soul Calibur, appeared and sealed Soul Edge's power away! Needless to say, his own body did not escape unscathed. Cervantes realized his flesh could decay at any moment. He had no time to lose; this spirit sword must be buried once and for all!

As Cervantes' body failed, he sought souls in vast numbers to hold it together. The souls he absorbed became an army in his service, and he soon found himself once again a might pirate in command of an undead armada. He even went so far as to attack his own daughter, Ivy; and by feasting on her soul, rich and ripe, he gained tremendous power.

But calamity struck again. An evil wave swept across the world; the cursed sword had freed itself from the spirit sword and regained its full power! His own Soul Edge responded in turn, and tried to pull away from him and return to its other half; after a brief deliberation, Cervantes decided to let it go. Once the cursed sword was whole, he would seize it for his own.

To replace his lost blade, Cervantes chose a sword that was an old friend. But no sooner had he clutched the longsword's hilt than it became a cursed weapon. Such raw, overwhelming power! Now no one could stop him.

"Wait and see, Soul Edge. I'll be the one to claim you, and all the world with you!"

Once there was a dread pirate who, upon claiming Soul Edge, became a creature of pure malevolence. Though defeated once, he managed to return to life through the intervention of the cursed sword's fragments. He gathered more and more fragments so that he might once again command great power, until at last he unified them into one great weapon, formidable enough to be called a second Soul Edge. But just as the day seemed near when he would find the other part of the evil blade and attain the ultimate power, calamity struck. The spirit sword, Soul Calibur, appeared and sealed Soul Edge's power away! Needless to say, his own body, which had been reconstructed through the cursed sword's power, did not escape unscathed. Cervantes realized his predicament; his flesh could decay at any moment. He had no time to lose; this spirit sword must be buried once and for all!

Cervantes had mastered Soul Edge's technique of devouring souls to make their power his own; and so, as his body failed, he sought souls in greater numbers than ever to hold it together. The souls he absorbed were not allowed into the afterlife; they were forced to remain in the living world and take unnatural shapes. In the form of ghastly apparitions, the souls became an army in Cervantes's service. And as he continued his hunt for more souls, he found himself once again a might pirate in command of an undead armada.

However, it was not enough. To face a being powerful enough to seal away Soul Edge, Cervantes needed to devour souls more abundant in strength. Then he remembered. When the evil blade was controlling him, he had left a legacy: an offspring. He had paid the child no mind thus far, but now... Could there by any sacrifice more worthy than the soul of one who carried his own blood? Cervantes attacked the moment he pinpointed Ivy's location. While she had seemingly trained herself well, she could not stand against the might of one who had already exceeded the boundaries of humanity. As he made a blood offering of his daughter, he leisurely devoured her soul. He had planted the seed, and now the time had come to harvest, the way one might pluck the ripest of fruits. The power in Ivy's soul was beyond anything he had dared imagine. It felt right. How could one soul be so succulent? More and more power flowed into Cervantes—even more than he knew what to do with. Once he eliminated his one woe, that wretched spirit sword, no one in this world could ever stop him!

But just when it seemed time for him to make his move, calamity struck a second time. One day, an evil wave swept across the world. In response, the Soul Edge he carried tried violently to tear itself from his grip. He knew why. Somewhere, far away, the cursed blade had freed itself from the spirit sword and regained its full power! His own Soul Edge was simply trying to return home, to its power-hungry other half. After a brief deliberation, Cervantes decided to let his sword go. For if he did, Soul Edge would become one—for him! He had no idea who to thank for this happy turn of events.

As he watched the sword streak across the sky, Cervantes fell into reflection. Once the cursed sword was whole, he would seize it for his own—and what an easy task it would be! He felt the shee rpower within his body ebb forth. Now that Soul Edge had returned, his own flesh was tempered anew. As proof, Cervantes took out the longsword he had kept close at hand during his mortal years and hardly touched ever since; no sooner had he clutched the sword's hilt than evil coursed through the blade, turning it black and giving it a bladeful glow. In just the blink of an eye, it had become a cursed weapon. Such evil; such raw, overwhelming power. Now that he had feasted on countless souls, there was none who could stop him. Cervantes held his old blade high aloft—and where did it point? The cursed capital, Ostrheinsburg.

"Wait and see, Soul Edge. I'll be the one to claim you, and all the world with you!"[2]

Soulcalibur V[]

Cervantes headed to Ostrheinsburg, intent on devouring his daughter Ivy's delicious soul and reclaiming Soul Edge. Ironically, it was ivy who foiled his plans and put an end to his ambitions. When his cursed body was sliced open by Ivy's sword, Cervantes was swallowed up into the rift formed by the cursed blade and vanished from this world.
Early in the 17th centruy, a strange rumor began circulating among sailors in every port. Apparently, a massive ship with a skull as its figurehead had recently started terrorizing ships in the Atlantic Ocean. The rumors speculated that it might be the infamous Dread Pirate Cervantes, though few actually believed that. After all, it had been over half a century since Cervantes had ruled the seas.
No one could have known that Cervantes, after disappearing into the dimensional rift, had managed to avoid being controlled by Soul Edge and instead returned to this world with a new body still in its prime.
"I will teach the fools of this world to once again fear the name of Captain Cervatnes, ruler of the high seas!"
The Dread Pirate of the old days had defied the laws of nature, sailed right past death as if it were nothing more than a small port town, and returned to once again spread fear across the expansive sea.[3]

Algol is thrown to the ground, and Soul Calibur is shattered beside him. Cervantes then picks up Soul Edge, declaring that reawakening the sword is all that matters, and that Algol served no purpose. Insulted, Algol attempts to rise, supporting himself on the broken Soul Calibur.

"You dare mock me?" He says, "My battle, my resurrection?!"

Cervantes replies, "If you truly wish to meet your end in battle, then I will perform the last rites!" Cervantes then kills Algol, and proclaims that this is the power he has longed for. {C}"Do you fear me, gods?" he cries "Then strike down with a lightning bolt of despair!"

The screen fades to black, Cervantes laughing in the background, and these words appear: "With this power, he has reached the realm of the gods. The grim mythology has just started."

Personality[]

Cervantes is a callous, evil man whose only goal in life is to satisfy his own ego. Before Soul Edge's corruption, he took all sorts of illegal jobs as a pirate, and he made a name for himself across the seven seas. Upon coming into contact with Soul Edge, however, Cervantes' own soul was stolen, and he became little more than a slave to Soul Edge's will, driven insane by its power.

After being resurrected by Nightmare, Cervantes begins to seek Soul Edge once more, having become addicted to the power it grants him. He does not care whether it takes away his free will, so long as he can steal more souls.

When Cervantes regains Soul Edge, his very life becomes linked to the sword's - if he does not maintain its desire for souls, or if it is destroyed, Cervantes will die with it. As such, Cervantes desperately seeks souls to sustain his existence. He eventually comes into contact with Ivy, his illegitimate daughter, and desires her soul to keep him alive.

In the fifth game, he returns to his old personality, having finally broken free of Soul Edge's control. Judging by his quotes, it is safe to assume that Cervantes believes that because he defeated Soul Edge's influence, he has transcended the power of gods and supernatural forces, deciding to no longer rely on them in his quest for power and glory.

Fighting Style[]

Cervantes is a mid to close range rushdown character who relies on moves that knock down and launch the opponent for heavy damage output with the 2 swords. His attacks are linear and easily avoided, but once Cervantes connects with something he becomes extremely dangerous. The pistol sword is used for small attacks, checking the opponent, and attack throws, while the long sword is used for major blows. He can use both swords to stun the opponent and has a special stance (Dread Charge) used for his most powerful attacks (Geo Da Ray, Dread Slash). Dread Charge is capable of catching the enemy off guard if they don't know what move is next, but it has an extremely slow startup and most of the attacks that come out of the stance are easily punishable, so it should be used with extreme caution.

In Soul Edge, Cervantes was noticeably more powerful than any of his future incarnations due to the sheer power and range his weapons possessed and the fact that his Critical Edge could potentially destroy an entire lifebar. Throughout the Soul Calibur games, however, Cervantes gradually developed into a balanced character. The pistol sword aspect of his weapons was elaborated upon, as he eventually gained the ability to fire an unblockable bullet at his opponent. His Dread Charge setups gradually developed as well, and in the fourth game he gained an extremely powerful tool on the form of the Geo Da Ray Conclusion. When the input for Geo Da Ray is done as fast as possible, Cervantes skips the Charge entirely and goes straight into the move, which deals much more damage than the charged version. Since then, the "instant Geo Da Ray (iGDR)" has become his most important move, defining Cervantes as a character.

Cervantes usually ranks in competitive tier lists as a high-to-top tier character due to his dangerous setups and devastating attack power. As of the fifth game, he is considered to be one of the strongest in the game.

Soulcalibur IV[]

Memories of Soul Edge[]

The great pirate Cervantes who spread fear as he crossed the Atlantic Ocean. After he was defeated, his body became infused with thousands of fragments of the evil sword and he literally became one with the evil.

His power was now that of the Cervantes himself along with the power of all the souls that Soul Edge has consumed over the years. One blow from the fencing master Cervantes is both sharper and more powerful than any other swordsman.

Soulcalibur V[]

Personal style + memories of Soul Edge[]

Cervantes could still remember the power of Soul Edge, the way it felt to push himself beyond his natural mental and physical limits and the experience he gained from the countless deathmatches he endured against capable warriors. These memories enhanced his fighting skills to a level that even gods would fear.
Cervantes had defeated numerous skilled opponents from all over the world over the course of far too many years, but he was eventually defeated by his own daughter Ivy and disappeared into Astral Chaos.
Just a few short years following his defeat, however, Cervantes returned to the human realm armed with a fresh new body that overflowed with the cursed blade's evil energy. Resuming his life as a pirate, Cervantes secretly arranged for non-aggression pacts with key nobles in power, which made it possible for him to start hunting for prey in the Mediterranean as well as the Atlantic.
In battle, Cervantes will close in on his target with superhuman speed, and the explosive force unleashed by his two swords is enough to scatter everything and everyone around him. Whether man, woman, or child, any who dare to oppose the Dread Pirate Cervantes will soon be sent to Davy Jones's locker.

Weapons[]

Stages[]

Theme Music[]

Critical Finish[]

Tartarus Griet: Cervantes slams the opponent to the ground, throws them into the air with his swords, and then teleports above them to fire a soul-charged bullet, which sends them hurtling down to earth.

Critical Edge[]

Cursed Roman Fire: Cervantes brandishes his pistol sword and shouts "Get ready! Now die!" and fires off a powerful blast. If timed right, it can also hit off the ground as well. The critical edge cannot be blocked. But it can be easily dodged by crouching down.

Weapon Arts[]

Weapon Arts are special moves in Soulcalibur: Lost Swords which act very similar to the Critical Edge system from Soulcalibur V.

  • Marine Curse: It's his Brave Edge grab called Curse of the Ancient Mariner.
  • Dark Geo Da Ray: This is a Dark Geo Da Ray attack with no alterations.
  • Final Geo Da Ray: That's a reverse just input version of the previous attack. It's called Geo Da Rey Conclusion, but Cervantes jumps up high this way only under certain conditions in SCV. In this Weapon Art his swords are surrounded by a light blue smoke resembling that of Hilde's charge attacks.
  • Fata Morgana: Yet another Brave Edge having the same name, Fata Morgana.
  • Cursed Fire: It's his Critical Edge from Soulcalibur V, though a word "Roman" was for some reason excluded from its name.

Relationships[]

  • Father of Ivy, who he was defeated and destroyed by before the events of Soulcalibur V.
