When Vincenzo was 3 his mother died of illness and therefore spent his early days sailing throughout the Mediterranean Sea with his father who also taught him how to use a sword and gun. One night when Vincenzo was 18 he, his Father and, their hired guards were resting in an Inn in a port town in northern Italy when it was attacked by bandits. The bandits decimated the town's defenses, deciding to help Vincenzo, his father and their crew helped defend town until Vincenzo was shot with a poisoned dart and stabbed in the stomach and left for dead. He was found by an old woman who helped him recover.

The woman explained that bandits had attacked the town and killed all the inhabitants with the exception of herself and Vincenzo. Vincenzo flew into a rage upon hearing that his father had been killed and then cursed the bandits who did this. Vincenzo eventually learned from the woman that the bandits had been following his father due to the weapons and goods that they were selling. After burying his father and other townspeople Vincenzo set out to find the bandits responsible and eventually tracked them to an old fort near the town.

After observing the area Vincenzo attacked and killed all the bandits before confronting their leader Stefano Palumbo who had a strange sword that also served as a pistol and challenging him to a duel. Vincenzo and Stefano fought and Vincenzo emerged as the victor. Vincenzo would then pick up the pistol sword and then said "This is for my father" before shooting Stefano in the head. Vincenzo then took the new sword for himself and headed to back to his father's ship. All the cargo and money had been stolen except for a long blade that was called Firangi which he kept and returned home. With most of the Romano wealth gone Vincenzo sold his land and ship and then became a mercenary traveling and fighting throughout the Italian peninsula.
