Game Features[]
Unlike the first game, the sequel has most of game mechanics from Soulcalibur VI, except Soul Charge. It was replaced by a brand new feature called Fragment Boost: on the beginning of every battle, each character (except Charade) has a fragment of Soul Edge & Soul Calibur; each fragment has specific boosts - fragment of Soul Edge increases damage, but decreases health; fragment of Soul Calibur increases health, but decreases damage. Each fragment can be used only once during the battle, on next round the fragment won’t recover until the next battle. Fragment Boost uses Soulcalibur VI's version of Soul Gauge.
Signature game modes[]
- Soul Chronicle: This mode returns from Soulcalibur VI. It tells the events after Crystal Rain through a main storyline and a storyline for each character.
- Soul Arena: This mode returns from Soulcalibur III. It contains Quick Play (Arcade) & Mission Mode, which contains 10 missions.
- Dawn of the Souls: This mode is based on Chronicle of the Sword from Soulcalibur III. A separate storyline from the main storyline. Players create a protagonist through the Creation feature and goes through a series of battles in the vein of strategy RPGs such as the Warcraft series, with battles being resolved as traditional Soulcalibur-style matches. This mode contains 30 levels (chapters). All bonus characters are unlocked there.
- Online Battles: Now all characters are playable here.
- Create-A-Soul: Old good Character Creation. Mode has all the races from Soulcalibur VI. However, races are not available in Dawn of the Souls Mode.
- Cheat Characters: That feature returns from the original Blade Trigger, but in home versions that was cut off.
Dawn of the Souls[]
Prologue[]
Some stories and battles are not well known in human history.
This is one of them.
That mystery concerns the four kingdoms: Skalia - a kingdom of mountains, Zafira - a kingdom of sands, Lingfei - a kingdom of lakes, and Karmir - a kingdom of gardens.
These four kingdoms waged a great war against each other for countless years. That war became a threat to all other nations, and became known as “The Whirl of Four”.
However, in reality, that was a sinister plan of Corvus Mistral Noctem - great tactician and emperor of Exilar empire: as a peacekeeping mission, his army seize the territories of these four kingdoms.
Some time after the beginning of war, the emperor of Exilar began to appear on the battlefield in steel armor and iron mask. For that he got a nickname “Masked Emperor”. His trusted servant, a soothsayer Luise, helps the emperor to plan attacks of the army by telling about the future. Both were heroes to people and soldiers of Exilar empire.
Once the army of Exilar were under the command of Lawrence Elvenheart - a famous general, who won many wars. Unfortunately, he suddenly disappeared when The Whirl of Four occurred. His apprentice became a commander of Exilar army, and he became a key figure both in this war and his empire…
Characters[]
- Commander: equivalent of Cadet from Chronicles of the Sword. The main character of this mode is created via Character Creation. The main difference with the creation of the main character in this mode, as opposed to creating a character in Creation menu, is that you cannot delete the main character, or change their weapon, once they have been created. Thus, careful planning is required on the creation of the Commander, so as not to create a character specializing in a fighting style that a player is unskilled with using.
All of the other characters in the Commander's party can be created in the same manner as a regular Create-A-Soul; named characters like Roy and Lawrence; however, can have their appearance edited, but can not be deleted.
Characters below can be unlocked and used in other modes, except Fragment Master Mode.
Once bonus characters and their stage unlocked, they can be fought in Quick Play.

Epilogue[]
The emperor is dead. His sister disappeared into darkness. The empire collapsed, and the people were left only with devastated lands and the memories of the terrible war. The people, however, eventually forgot the hardships. They rebuilt the razed villages but they didn’t know how to recover four kingdoms.
Lawrence survived. He and the former rulers of four kingdoms decided to create a new country - Exilar Republic. Together, they started to rule a newborn country and became known as “Five Sages”. Roy is still a captain of the Cavalry, but this time he and his soldiers were keeping peace in the republic.
What about our Commander? He is currently watching over the other countries to prevent any invasions in this chaos. The Commander became known as “Recreator”, as the new republic was more magnificent than all four kingdoms and the empire.
People built a statue of Commander to remember their true hero. But, after that there were many rumours about shady figure, who was near that statue. Someone says that there was a female voice: “I hope, you’ll be a better ruler than me”.
