Soulcalibur: Blade Trigger III is the third instalment in Blade Trigger fan fighting game series. The game takes place immediately after the events of Soulcalibur: Blade Trigger II.

Updated version, Soulcalibur: Blade Trigger III - Dirge of the Celestial, was released after Soulcalibur: Blade Trigger N V-II and Soulcalibur: Blade Trigger II - Anniversary Edition.

Story[]

The destruction of Edge Calibur allowed the spirit forms of Soul Edge (Inferno) & Soul Calibur (Elysium) to appear in human world.

While Inferno was collecting souls to eat, projections of Elysium began to appear in all over the world:

“My name is Elysium. You know me as the spirit sword Soul Calibur. This is my message to all mankind.
You, humans, were trying to reach comfort too long. Your species had mutated, you became disgusting weaklings! Your world is ruled by pathetic douchebags, who never knew how to fight! Why do you still blindly follow rules and laws, created by these cowards? Open your eyes, foolish humans!
I will change those absurd rules, which the world is obeying. In MY new world will be only those, who will proof their battle mastery!
And so, I announce the beginning of Holy Tournament!
Come, if you think you’re strong enough. Lead your way to the top by your weapon! But remember: the losers will await death along with their countries!
C’mon, humans! Unleash the dogs of war!”

Gameplay[]

Due to disappearance of both swords, fragment mechanic were removed. However, the game introduces new mechanics, such as Soul Attack, Resist Impact & Equipment Destruction.
The most notable change is return of Soulcalibur IV’s version of Soul Gauge: now it is a colored gem beside the characters' HP Gauge. The gem changes color when the player guards and is attacked. The color gradually changes from Cyan to Purple and eventually to Red and then Flashing Red. The player's own Soul Gauge will regenerate if the he or she makes an attack and hits the opponent, guarding or otherwise, performing Guard Impact. Additionally, performing a Reversal Edge will actually damage the Soul Gauge of the character, who missed the attack.
The ratio of damage and regeneration is next:
- Player is attacked: 1 times damage
- Player guards: 2 times damage
- Player attacks: 1 times regenerate
- Player performs Guard Impact: 2 times regenerate
- Player wins Reversal Edge: 3 times regenerate
- Player loses Reversal Edge: 3 times damage
While Soul Gauge on its Flashing Red state, player can try to perform Critical Edge. If player fails, Soul Gauge’s colour becomes White. In that case, Soul Gauge can become empty very easily, but, if player manages to regenerate it, Soul Gauge will become Red, and in Flashing Red state, player will get an another chance to perform Critical Edge. Once player’s Soul Gauge becomes empty, player’s character will be put into a special stun animation, during which he can't attack, block, move, or attempt guard impacts. The same can be said about his opponent. Soul Gauge itself will remain that until the end of the battle.
However, if opponent of the character with empty Soul Gauge has only one point to remain win, that character can perform Trigger Finish, which automatically win the battle.
Trigger Finish is a special move, similar to Critical Finish. It can only be performed on three conditions:
- The character has empty Soul Gauge
- This character has low HP
- The character’s opponent has only one point remain to win the battle
Despite Trigger Finish allows automatically to win the battle, the player has only one chance to perform it.
Some of Trigger Finishes are similar to Critical Edge from Soulcalibur VI, while Critical Edges in this game are as they were in Soulcalibur V.
There are also some changes in other mechanics: if your Soul Gauge is Cyan, Purple or Red, you can perform Soul Attack, which destroys a random part of the opponent's equipment and cracks their Soul Gauge, making it deplete faster, but your own Soul Gauge will become White. Resist Impact also cracks opponent's Soul Gauge and now can counter Soul Attacks. Once Resist Impact used, your Soul Gauge will change its colour (from Cyan to Purple, from Purple to red, etc.).

Game Modes[]
