Berserker (バーサーカー?) is a name given to various warriors who have been driven mad with blood lust. They have appeared in Soulcalibur II, as an unlockable character; Soulcalibur III, as an NPC that can be fought in Tales of Souls; Soulcalibur Legends, as generic enemies that can be encountered on some stages; and in Soulcalibur VI, as NPCs that can be encountered in its Libra of Soul mode.

Soulcalibur II[]

Berserker is an enemy character who first appeared in Soulcalibur II's Weapon Master mode. Berserker is only playable in the North America and European console versions of SCII, along with Assassin and Lizardman. He has 6 different costumes: three with armor and three without. He screams and grunts, but never speaks. Berserkers are people enshrouded by evil aura, following their master Johan Dürer and a monster (the lord) in Eastern Europe. They guard many dungeons through which players must navigate. It's unknown if the Berserkers are now abandoned by their master. Berserker is a combination of Rock and Astaroth, having a mixed moveset and a single weapon (the Great Ax).

Personal Biography[]

At first, the Berserkers were a clan of elite knights from the Holy Roman Empire who Johan Dürer joined and commanded. It was the day that the Evil Seed rose and cursed the knights into monster beings, along with Johan Dürer and the castle lord. The strongest ones are still alive and spotted at an Eastern forest in Europe. Most of them now reside in labyrinths with secret motivations.

Profile[]

Berserkers were created seven years ago by a fiendish light, linked to the Soul Edge sword. People exposed to the light wandered around and sought only conflict. This confused state continued even after the sword had been destroyed. Over the years more and more Berserkers have died, but those who remain are among the strongest of their kind.[2]

Soulcalibur III[]

In Soulcalibur III, Berserker is a non-playable knight with gray armor who wields a lance that appears in Tales of Souls. Not much is known about him, but he is said to be a servant of the cursed sword. He is non-playable, but can easily be created using the Unholy and Evil armor with a knight's cape.

Berserker's appearance completely changed between the two games, this is probably because of the return of Rock being in Soulcalibur III, so Berserker has now changed into a common knight. Another possible cause is that Johan Durer's profile states that his people were once knights.

Berserker can be seen wielding Heavy Lance, Pilum Muralis, Bourdonasse, or Ahlspiess when encountered.[1]

Soulcalibur Legends[]

In Soulcalibur Legends he is a common enemy that is one of the most durable in the game. This Berserker is much like the one in Soulcalibur II but instead of an ax, he wields the Giant Mace. His appearance is similar to his first, third, and fifth costumes from Soulcalibur II, but it's not identical as his outfit. His outfit, for instance, is no longer asymmetrical.

Soulcalibur VI[]

Unlike in past games, Soulcalibur VI has various characters that go by the name "Berserker" in Libra of Soul. They are usually Malfested who wield a variety of different weapons and appear as both males and females.

Profile[]

Berserkers are living embodiments of the memories of those who did battle with Soul Edge, and are given life by the power of astral fissures. Most take the form of warriors who attack anybody or anything that approaches the fissure from which they spawned.
Berserkers are transient beings, and as such cannot truly be considered "alive." Although they may seem to possess memories and otherwise act like who they appear to be, they are all filled with a deep, murderous bloodlust. This is because, as the echoes of warriors past, they embody only the memory of their will to fight. Berserkers can only hold their form in close proximity to an astral fissure. If you are unfortunate enough to stumble upon one, you will be presented with two choices: fight or die. Those who approach a fissure should do so with the utmost caution.

Trivia[]

  • Berserker is absent in Soulcalibur IV, but it is possible to create him from Soulcalibur II. It is also possible that the knights in Ostrheinsburg Castle Throne Room could be Berserkers, since they look identical and have lances.
  • Like Voldo and Aeon Calcos, Berserkers don't have dialogues, merely a few grunts.
