Shishi-Oh (獅子王, lit. "Lion King") is Mitsurugi's main weapon throughout most of the Soul series, with the exception of Soul Blade, where he uses Korefuji; and Soulcalibur V, where he uses Muichimonji.
During the intense training that he followed after his defeat in front of his lord, Mitsurugi became dissatisfied with his old katana Korefuji and replaced it with Shishi-Oh, a katana with a wider blade. With this blade Mitsurugi perfected many new sword fighting moves to defeat the rifle.
Soulcalibur[]
Description: Shishi-oh is the name of Mitsurugi's katana.
Mitsurugi was soundly defeated and disgraced in front of his lord by a rifleman bearing the Tanegashima rifle during an exhibition duel. This defeat was the catalyst that forced him to perfect his swordmanship and seek a weapon strong enough to defeat the rifle.
During his intensive training, he became dissatisfied with his old sword Korefuji and replaced it with Shishi-oh, a katana with a longer and wider blade. Mitsurugi perfected many new sword fighting moves to defeat the rifle with Shishi-oh, the Relic being just one of them.
Soulcalibur II[]
Description: After learning iaijutsu and other techniques to combat firearms, Mitsurugi sought a sword appropriate for a new style of fighting. He finally settled on Shishi-Oh. An incredibly well-balanced Japanese sword, it is Mitsurugi's preferred weapon.
Soulcalibur IV[]
Profile[]
Mitsurugi had a voracious appetite for learning sword fighting arts that would enable him to defeat the rifle, such as "iai", the simultaneous drawing and striking of the sword. He also sought a sword that was a match for his skills. After fighting many duels and battles with many different blades, he finally chose Shishi-Oh as his weapon.
Shishi-Oh has never since left Mitsurugi's side. The day he finally proved that he could defeat a rifle with only a sword, it was Shishi-Oh that he held in his hand.
A Japanese katana called "Shishi-Oh" is known to exist today, but it is not believed to be the same Shishi-Oh that Mitsurugi himself wielded.
Soulcalibur VI[]

Mitsurugi decided to rethink his fighting style to combat the power of the Tanegashima. He arrived at the conclusion he needed a new blade to fit his new style. Visiting many a swordsmith on his travels, the samurai tried out various swords, until eventually he settled on Shishi-Oh. Though neither rare nor particularly unusual, the blade is relatively long and wide. It is sharp, weighty, and cuts the air cleanly, making it ideal for Mitsurugi's aggressive style.
Trivia[]
- It is revealed that during the 17 year gap between Soulcalibur IV and Soulcalibur V, Mitsurugi lost Shishi-Oh to a female swordsman. She managed to shatter the katana, but Mitsurugi, seizing upon a chance, punched her in the stomach and took victory.
- In Soulcalibur, Shishi-Oh was wielded by Arthur as well. This is because Arthur replaces Mitsurugi in countries that discouraged samurai imagery and references. In Soulcalibur III he wielded Gassan, one of Mitsurugi's optional weapons in Soulcalibur II.
- In Soulcalibur V, Shishi-Oh is Mitsurugi's legendary weapon and is unlocked upon reaching Level 41.
