Sinking Merchant Ship (沈みゆく商船?) is a stage associated with Maxi in Soulcalibur V. It is set on the deck of a sinking merchant ship. There are many pirate ships in the background, constantly attacking the stage. It is almost identical to Sailor's Rest from Soulcalibur IV, except that it is not surrounded by an island and lacks a wall. It also shares similarities with Cervantes's Soulcalibur III stage Pirate Raid.

The stage is multi-tiered: Once a player reaches a decisive round, a cannonball from The Adrian hits the merchant ship and both players fall to a lower level of the ship with three walls and an opening.

Profile[]

Departing from a port in Goa packed with the riches of Asia, this merchant vessel was heading for Lisbon through the Cape of Good Hope, Sadly, it was attacked by the infamous Adrian, the ship of the Dread Pirate Cervantes. The Adrian's menacing, skull-shaped naval ram split the merchant ship in two, and it would only be a matter of time before it completely sank to the depths of the indifferent sea.[1]

Designer's Comment[]

"This stage started off as an active battle at sea, with explosive effects depicting the deadly battle between the merchant ship and the Adrian. Unfortunately, the effects were a little too "effective" and it was hard to believe that the merchant ship would survive for any length of time."
— Yuko Mizoguchi[1]

Trivia[]

  • In the first demo of the game, this stage used the "Till Fate Writes My Epitaph" BGM.
