Isurugi (イスルギ, also read as 石動) is a non-playable character in Soulcalibur VI who, although mentioned in supplementary material since Soulcalibur[1], is first seen in Taki's Soul Chronicle. He's one of the heads of the Yasunobe faction of the Fu-Ma clan, alongside Maki, Geki, and Kotonashi.[1][2]

Background[]

At first glance, Isurugi bears no distinguishing features, but before Toki became clan leader, he was once exiled from the clan for employing a vengeful spirit that he should have banished. Toki pardoned the outcast, and installed him as one of the heads of the Yasunobe faction. Unlike the other heads, Isurugi has no subordinates from the clan, and is instead followed by a pair of twin girls (Niime and Miime) who are always covered in fresh bruises. These are in fact vengeful spirits that Isurugi has enslaved and bound to human forms. It is unclear if Isurugi has sworn total allegiance to Toki, and he sometimes ignores orders he has been given.[1][2]

After Taki was declared as an outcast, Geki left in pursuit of her. Toki, worried that a rebellion could occur without his right-hand man there to defend him, recalled Isurugi and Maki and ordered them to keep a strict guard on the village. Subordinates under the pair kept an eye on other clan members while using what resources they could spare to locate Taki.[1][3]

Unlike the other Fu-Ma ninjas who are hunting Taki, Isurugi only does so because he's seeking out Gel-o-Fury so that he could use him for himself.

Trivia[]

  • The body he has is not his real one, as he mentions, in Taki's Soul Chronicle, that it has "outgrown its usefulness" and that he needs to "find another."
