Biography[]

Soulcalibur[]

Maxi was a wandering pirate from Shuri in the Ryūkyū Kingdom (present-day Okinawa). Maxi's father was a confident merchant of the Ryūkyū Kingdom, but he wasn't allowed to commerce to the foreign countries, forced to commerce with his country only. Maxi spent most of his first years traveling from harbor to harbor with his father. He also learned to use the nunchaku as a way to defend himself, eventually turning into a strong youth.

During one of his father's travels, he met a man from Ming known as Zhang Wu. The man carried a bladed nunchaku, which Maxi noticed. He, full of pride, challenged the stranger to a fight. Not hearing Kyam (his sworn brother)'s pleas, Maxi faced the man and was defeated. Recognizing the world was wider than he thought, he asked the man to be his teacher for the remainder of the travel. The man agreed and as time passed Maxi studied his style, and despite being different from his, he was able to further improve his abilities. Li Long left after reaching the port, but Maxi kept studying his work.

After his father's death, Maxi took his vessel and decided to turn into a freelance pirate, to see the world his father couldn't because of his ties to the country. He embarked with the crew, his "new family", and Kyam and sailed towards the west. They docked on an Indian Port town and, while Maxi was out, Kilik approached the ship searching a way to go west. He argued with a pirate of the ship, who wanted Dvapara-Yuga as fee for the trip, until Kyam stepped in. Kyam sympathized with Kilik and let him stay until Maxi, the captain, would return.

But when Maxi returned, he found his ship under attack by a hoard of golems and lizard-like creatures led by Astaroth. With Kilik, both joined forces in the battle against the monsters. Eventually, they had repelled the golems, but not before Astaroth had temporarily snatched the holy mirror Dvapara-Yuga from Kilik, causing him to lose his sanity and savagely attack Maxi. Maxi was able to suppress Kilik and return the Dvapara-Yuga to him, but only after Maxi's sworn brother, Kyam, had been murdered and most of the other members of the crew were dead or missing. With his dying words, Kyam told Maxi of Kilik's quest and, having lost everything, Maxi decided to travel with him, swearing an oath of revenge against Astaroth. Eventually, the two met Xianghua, a member of the Ming Dynasty Imperial Guard, who also aided them in their travels.

With Kilik and Xianghua's help, Maxi stormed Ostrheinsburg Castle, where the creatures that had killed Maxi's crew were waiting for them. After defeating the creatures, Astaroth presented himself and blocked the entrance to the castle. As Kilik and Xianghua ran past Astaroth, Maxi stayed behind to fight him to the death. He succeeded in killing Astaroth, but the god of war Ares, in bitter rage, commanded the ground to open up and swallow Maxi. When Maxi woke up, he was on a riverbed near an unfamiliar village, where an old man rescued him. Due to the severity of his wounds, Maxi's traveling days were over.

Soulcalibur II[]

Four peaceful years passed, until a rumor of a horrendous creature wielding a large bearded axe reached the village. Maxi had a horrible feeling that the creature was Astaroth. He wanted to chase after him, but his body was too weak. Maxi went to see the village medicine man, who performed a secret ritual using a strange metal fragment, which was actually a fragment of Soul Edge, and several days later, Maxi left the village, promising to return some day. He did not realize, however, that all memory of his traveling companions had been lost as a result of the ritual...

Soulcalibur III[]

Maxi's search for Astaroth led him to the ruins of the shrine where the golem had been created. While inspecting the ruins, he found a man in tattered clothing there, clutching something and muttering incoherently. This man was Kunpaetku—Astaroth's creator, who had managed to escape the shrine's destruction at the last minute. Kunpaetku mostly ignored Maxi until he asked him about Astaroth. Kunpaetku cursed Astaroth, calling him a failure. It was then that Maxi realized that Kunpaetku created him.

A strange urge to kill Kunpaetku began rising within Maxi. As he drew his weapon, the object in Kunpaetk's hand, a fragment of Soul Edge, began to glow with a faint red light. Kunpaetku then looked at Maxi madly, noticing that he had Soul Edge inside his body. Upon hearing this, Maxi killed Kunpaetku and kicked the fragment of Soul Edge into the ruins below. He felt an uneasy throbbing in his heart, born from his desire to kill Kunpaetku. Maxi then suddenly remembered a man who became lost to evil after having lost everything, and how he suffered after returning to his senses. But Maxi couldn't remember who this person was, no matter how hard he tried. Despite this, he decided to continue his search for Astaroth.

Soulcalibur IV[]

Maxi had come to a trading port in India to pay his respects to his friends who had been murdered by grotesque creatures, and renew his vow to avenge them. There he reunited with Kilik and Xianghua, and long-forgotten memories came flooding back. But while Maxi's body was a host to a fragment of the cursed sword and Kilik held a piece of the Dvapara-Yuga, they could not journey together. Thus, Maxi had to make a painful decision to turn his back to his friends and their entreaties, and leave them behind.

Maxi went to the woods to take shelter from a squall, and as he brooded there in the darkness, he was visited by a disciple of the cursed sword. A girl who had fallen into darkness. "I know about him, you know." she whispered eerly. "That mud muppet you're chasing." The enemy against whom he had sworn revenge was growing stronger, she continued. Maxi's current strength was no match for that monster; there was only one way, Soul Edge. Only with the power of the cursed sword could he win.

Maxi continued to stare her down in silent malice, but she had him now. In parting, she told him of Osthreinsburg, the cursed land. That was where he could find bouth Soul Edge and his revenge. The rain had stopped, but the menacing dark clouds lingered in the sky, blocking the rays of sun. "It's so dark." Maxi noticed now that the path leading deep the forest was covered by folded curtains of shadows. It was darker than anything he had ever seen, but he would brave the darkness. Each step Maxi took was heavy and slow, and his legs seemed to creak with pain, but he did not stop.

Soulcalibur V[]

Maxi drew power from the fragment of the cursed sword Soul Edge still lodged in his body, but it came with a price. Even after defeating Astaroth and avenging his crewmates, he remained consumed with an insatiable lust for revenge.

Not wanting to drag his friends down with him, Maxi left Kilik and Xianghua to walk a dark and lonely path. Living in the shadows, his humanity gradually slipped away—until he found salvation at the hands of Edge Master, Kilik's former teacher. The old man taught Maxi how to live with the shard of the cursed sword he carried within him, and in time, Maxi managed to suppress its foul influence.

Over the course of the next eight years, Maxi's jovial temperament returned. He even started to joke about the unusually slow rate at which his body was aging, and how easy it was to pass as a young man.

Perhaps sensing the time had come, Edge Master bade Maxi to listen well. Kilik's life was in danger, he said, and there was only one way to save him: Kilik must bequeath his weapon, the Kali-Yuga, to a boy named Xiba. But alas, Xiba was still so young and innocent...

Realizing what his teacher was asking, Maxi volunteered to mentor Xiba, and led his young disciple west, on a quest to save a dear friend...

Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul[]

(Non-canon)

Maxi fights alongside Kilik at the Coliseum when they encounter the player and Cassandra. After Kilik is defeated and Xianghua clears up the misunderstanding, Maxi gives them information about Ivy.

Profile[]

Soulcalibur[]

Maxi was a carefree pirate from the Ryukyu Kingdom who traveled to wherever the winds would take him. One day, while anchored at an Indian port, his ship came under attack during his absence by a horde of monsters led by Astaroth.

By coincidence, Kilik was there as well, and so they both joined in the battle against the horde. After a fierce battle, they repelled the monsters, but not before one of them snatched the Dvapara-Yuga away from Kilik. Kilik lost his sense of reason and attacked Maxi.

Maxi barely succeeded in suppressing Kilik, but by then the monsters that massacred his sworn brother Kyam and many of his crew were nowhere to be seen...

Having lost all that he held dear, Maxi chose to travel with Kilik and swore an oath of revenge against Astaroth.

Chapter III: Dandy from South Sea[2]

Maxi was a pirate from Ryukyu Kingdom who sailed freely like the wind. Maxi had anchored his ship at an Indian port to enjoy the night when Kilik arrived searching for a ship to the west. Kyam, Maxi's sworn brother, was taking care of the ship while Maxi was out. Kyam liked Kilik because he chose their ship among many. "You have a good eye! Be our guest and I'll ask my brother for you!" Kyam laughed.

As Kilik was waiting Maxi’s return, the weather grew hostile. As a strong wind began to blow, a mysterious ship approached within a thick fog. As soon as the ship moored along Maxi's, a crowd of monsters with dead eyes attacked Kilik. Without knowing their reasons for attacking him, Kilik fought the monsters with Kali-Yuga but the monsters managed to slaughter Maxi’s crew.

The battle was raging as Maxi returned. "You bastards! Prepare to die!!!" roared Maxi.

Maxi and Kilik alone managed to drive the monsters back, but as they did the giant, Astaroth, bearing a huge ax mortally wounded Kyam and pulled the Dvapara-Yuga off Kilik as they withdrew. Without the Dvapara-Yuga Kilik lost control and attacked Maxi. Maxi defended himself and placed the Dvapara-Yuga upon Kilik. The instant he did Kilik lost consciousness.

"Brother ... take Kilik west, and see the world for yourself ... on behalf of us.... " Kyam begged Maxi in his last breath. Maxi lost everything in an instant. He decided to travel with Kilik and take revenge on Astaroth for Kyam.

Soulcalibur II[]

Maxi, the pirate from Ryukyu (present-day Okinawa, Japan), led a carefree life on the high seas. Maxi looked to the west for new lands to explore and sailed towards Europe. While docked at a harbor in India, he encountered Kilik.

The hidden evil resident within Kilik attracted unwanted attention from a horde of monsters. The ensuing battle took the lives of Maxi's crew, who were helpless against these nightmarish foes. After the massacre, Maxi swore to seek revenge for his fallen comrades, and traveled with Kilik. Xianghua later joined the group, and together they headed for Europe.

Eventually, the group made their way into Nightmare's stronghold. The same monsters that slaughtered Maxi's crew waited for them at the castle.

Maxi forced his companions to go on while he stayed behind to confront Astaroth. After Astaroth's defeat, the god Ares commanded the ground to swallow up Maxi.

When Maxi awoke, he found himself resting on a riverbank. Luckily, a person from a nearby village rescued him. He quickly became popular among the villagers, but Maxi's wounds were graver than he realized--his wanderlust days were over.

Four years passed, then a rumor reached the village. The rumor was about a man with a gigantic ax.

Maxi had a horrible feeling that it was Astaroth. He tried to chase after the rumored man, but his body would not cooperate. Maxi visited the village medicine man to receive treatments for his injuries. The elder performed a secret ritual with a rare metal fragment.

Several days later, Maxi left the village with the promise to return one day. Maxi did not realize that he had lost the memories of his companions in exchange for the restoration of his body.

Maxi, the pirate from Ryukyu (present-day Okinawa, Japan), led a crew of trustworthy men and lived carefree on the high seas. Having traveled throughout the seas of Asia, Maxi looked to the west for new lands to explore and sailed a southerly route towards Europe. While docked at a harbor in India, he encountered Kilik, a young man searching for Soul Edge.

Unfortunately, this proved to be a star-crossed encounter.

The hidden evil resident within Kilik attracted unwanted attention from a horde of monsters. The ensuing battle took the lives of Maxi's crew, who were helpless against these nightmarish foes. Kilik and Maxi were the only survivors of the bloody carnage.

After the massacre, Maxi traveled with Kilik and swore to seek revenge for his fallen comrades. Maxi was certain that Astaroth, the leader of the monsters, would appear before Kilik once again.

Xianghua later joined their journey, and the three of them headed towards Europe. The travels through unfamiliar lands strengthened the friendships between Maxi and his new companions.

Eventually, the group made their way into Nightmare's stronghold. Nightmare, who possessed Soul Edge, commanded his horde to attack the intruders. Maxi recognized them as the same monsters that murdered his crew; he knew that his sworn enemy was nearby. Almost as if to acknowledge Maxi's presence, a hulking silhouette emerged from the shadows.

Maxi forced his companions to go on while he stayed behind to confront Astaroth. He used every ounce of his strength and avenged his fallen crew by destroying the golem, but at a price- Maxi suffered grave injuries during the battle.

Immediately after Astaroth's defeat, the outraged god of war commanded the earth to swallow up the weakened pirate. Unconscious, Maxi fell into a river that flowed deep underground and was carried away quietly by its icy currents.

Above ground, the only trace of Maxi left behind was his nunchaku.

When Maxi awoke, he found himself resting on a riverbank. His mind was lucid, but he could not feel his extremities. He soon realized that he had suffered debilitating injuries that prevented him from moving freely.

Fortunately, a person from a nearby village rescued Maxi, and took him to the village. With his vast knowledge, strong sense of duty, and likeable personality, it did not take long for Maxi to be accepted by the villagers. After some time, his strength began to return, but his arms and legs would not heal- it seemed unlikely that he would be able to return to his carefree, nomadic lifestyle.

Nevertheless, Maxi was satisfied with his new life. He had exacted his revenge against the one responsible for his crew's death. Although he was curious about Kilik and Xianghua's fortunes, as long as the peace continued, he believed that they had vanquished the root of the evil. "I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life here in this village," thought Maxi.

Four years passed, then a rumor reached the village. "When the enormous man with a gigantic axe comes through... Nothing remains in his wake!"

Maxi had a horrible feeling that it was him. The more information he gathered, the more convinced he became that it was indeed Astaroth. "That freak is still alive. How can I be here, living peacefully, when I haven't avenged my crew?" Unfortunately, his limbs still refused to move.

As if he were reading Maxi's mind, an elderly village medicine man paid him a visit. "If you wish to gain something of value, then you must part with something of equal value," counseled the elder.

Maxi implored the elder and convinced him to treat his injuries with his secret arts. The elder had found a peculiar rare metal fragment recently and used that precious item for the mysterious treatment.

Several days later, Maxi left the village with the promise to return one day.

In exchange for the restoration of his limbs to seek revenge, Maxi lost something just as precious as the slain comrades he swore to avenge- the memories of Kilik and Xianghua.[3]

Soulcalibur III[]

In-game Profile[]

Pursuing Astaroth in order to avenge his comrades, Maxi arrived at a destroyed temple in the desert.

It was clear that the temple met a fearsome destructive power. It was probably the work of Astaroth, but it appeared that he had already left this place.

A man dressed in rags clutching something in his hand sat in the ruins. When Maxi asked the man about Astaroth, the man began to curse.

"A cursed failure. Useless piece of junk. Damned clay puppet..."

A chilling desire to kill raced through Maxi's mind. At that moment, the metal fragment in the man's hand glowed red. The man turned to look at Maxi. His eyes were crazed.

"You have Soul Edge inside your body? What a marvelous specimen! My--"

A dry thud sounded twice.

"I have Soul Edge inside my body?" A dark emotion welled from within him as Maxi thought about this.

Feeling an unidentifiable fear, Maxi kicked the metal fragment that lay on the floor into the rubble. Cold sweat poured out from his entire body at the ominous feeling when he touched it.

The image of someone appeared in the back of his mind. Someone who had been enveloped in madness and lost everything, then sunk into deep depression after recovering his senses...But he could not remember who it was. Fearing he may have forgotten something very important, Maxi grew uneasy, but he couldn't dwell on this at the moment--he knew what it was he needed to do right now.

Putting the silent ruin behind him, Maxi soon disappeared into the distant point where the blue sky met the sea of sand.

Soulcalibur IV[]

Maxi had come to a trading port in India to pay his respects to his friends--who had been murdered by grotesque creatures--and renew his vow to avenge them. There he reunited with Kilik and Xianghua, and long-forgotten memories came flooding back. The rain had stopped, but the menacing dark clouds lingered in the sky, blocking the rays of the sun.

(It's so dark.)

Maxi noticed now that the path leading deeper into the forest was covered by folded curtains of shadows. It was darker than anything he had ever seen, but he would brave the darkness. Each step Maxi took was heavy and slow, and his legs seemed to creak with pain. But he did not stop.

Maxi stood alone in a foreign graveyard overlooking the sea, somewhere on the east coast of India. Below, at the foot of a hill, was a trading port. He was motionless, his eyes fixed on the distant horizon, the sea winds buffering against him.

The winds here were harsh, but it brought back fond memories as well. Maxi though of the friends that were buried in this soil, friends who had been like family to him, companions for many precious years. Pirates never know what tomorrow may bring, but they are always prepared for the day when the ocean shall take them. But his friends did not die at the sea—no, they were murdered by those grotesque creatures. It was a cruel fate.

"I shall slay them all." This vow was the only tribute he could make. He had failed once, but he would not fail again.

Maxi had come to this place to renew his resolve and pay his respects, but now he continued to linger, not making a move to leave. He wanted to go, but something held him. But what? He was waiting. Waiting for someone. Who? He did not know the answer.

Something pulled at the corner of Maxi's mind. He tried to bring the thought into focus, but it stayed hidden, at the edge of his consciousness. Bah! He was being a superstitious fool, except at that moment, someone behind him spoke.

"Maxi?"

His heart froze. Something welled up in his throat. At the sound of his own name, long-forgotten memories came flooding back to him. Now he understood.

Turning, Maxi saw before him a man and a woman, standing together. Old friends with whom he had shared hardships and joy alike. Why had he forgotten them? He could not say. Kilik—for that was the man's name—extended his right hand in greeting. His face, stronger and bolder than when they had last met, was suffused with unabashed joy.

"Kilik, Xianghua..."

Maxi smiled broadly, and reached out to take his friend's hand—but then, suddenly, he froze.

Just before their fingers touched, a strange feeling of dread rushed over him. As his gaze unfocused from his friend's puzzled face, it took him but a moment to comprehend. He saw the pendant that hung around Kilik's neck. Though it looked different from how he remembered it, there was no doubt that it was the Dvapara-Yuga, a holy mirror that could suppress the evil energy inside a person. And Maxi's withered limbs were now animated by a fragment of Soul Edge, the source of that evil.

Maxi struggled to keep the smile on his face as he withdrew his hand, but Kilik and Xianghua had seen it in his eyes. Or perhaps they had sensed the subtle evil emanating from Maxi's body. For whatever reason, they knew, and Kilik's eyes widened. Kilik tried to tell him that the holy mirror Dvapara-Yuga could purify evil energy.

"No, it's buried inside me. There's no way to get it out." (And my body can no longer live without it.)

Maxi took a step back. The wind was growing stronger. The clouds were rising across the canopy of the sky; a rainsquall seemed ready to be unleashed.

"I'm sorry. But I cannot go with you."

And so saying, Maxi turned his back on his friends and their entreaties, and left them in that cemetery.

Instead of returning to town, Maxi went to the woods and took shelter from the squall. Brooding there in the darkness, he was surprised by a visitor.

"What do you want?"

As Maxi spoke, he swung his weapon at the girl menacingly, but his visitor dodged and sidestepped the blow.

"What kind of greeting is that?"

So said the mysterious young girl in a startled voice. A sinister aura surrounded her, the foreboding that clings to those who have fallen into darkness. There was no question, the same evil that tainted the grotesque beasts had also poisoned her.

"Don't look down upon me. You and I are more alike than you know. It was easy to find you. I just had to follow the scent."

In response to her taunts, Maxi glared at her in cold silence. But she pretended not to notice. She let out a small chuckle and looked at him askance.

"I know about him, you know. That mud puppet you're chasing."

Little light penetrated the canopy of the evergreen forest as it trembled in the beating rain, but her dark form stood out sharply in the blackness. The disciple of the cursed sword whispered seductively that the enemy against whom he had sword revenge was growing stronger; that his current strength was not match for that monster; that there was only one way—Soul Edge. Only with the power of the cursed sword could he win.

Through the rain, Maxi could faintly hear the crashing of the waves. The two continued to stand within striking distance. If they were to engaged, only one would survive.

(Incredible, just incredible!)

The messenger of the cursed sword, Tira, was calm on the surface, but inside, her heart danced. This man was far more than she dared to hope. She must have him. It was a gamble to bring up Soul Edge. Once he had completed his quest to avenge his friends, he would try to destroy Soul Edge, the weapon that was her lord and master. Despite the evil shared inside his body, he still had not lost his mind. He was a dangerous element in the equation, but she wanted him, in spite of—no, because of the danger. His powerful soul only made him a more attractive offering.

Maxi continued to stare her down in silent malice, but his face betrayed what he really wanted. Tira had him now, and she licked her lips in anticipation. Finally, she told him of that cursed land.

"Ostrheinsburg! That's where you'll find both Soul Edge and your revenge! Come! Come to us, avenger! I'll be waiting!"

Maxi listened as her triumphant laughter faded slowly into the distance, accompanied by the hoarse cawing of crows. The rain had stopped, but the menacing dark clouds lingered in the sky, blocking the rays of the sun.

His mind was made up.

(Kilik, Xianghua... forgive me.)

He would do what he must to gain the power he needed, even if it meant severing ties with his friends, even if it was a trap, even if this journey would lead him outside the boundaries of humanity.

(It's so dark.)

Maxi noticed now that the path leading deeper into the forest was covered by folded curtains of blackness. It was darker than anything he had ever seen, but he would brave the darkness. Each step he took was heavy and slow, and his legs seemed to creak with pain. But he did not stop. Slowly, the sound of the waves receded into the distance behind him.[4]

Soulcalibur V[]

The fragment of Soul Edge embedded in his body demanded a high price in exchange for the power it granted Maxi. Despite having avenged his brother by defeating Astaroth, Maxi was still plagued by a dark hunger for vengeance.
Wanting nothing more than happiness for his friends Kilik and Xianghua, Maxi set himself upon the path of a lonely journey without them. As time went by, Maxi could feel his humanity slipping away, and it was only through the intervention of an elderly man known as Edge Master that Maxi was able to reclaim himself. Edge Master was Kilik's former master, and he taught Maxi everything he needed to know in order to live a good life despite the presence of the Soul Edge fragment within him.
After eight years with Edge Master, Maxi had become much like his former self and was even able to find humor in the fact that the Soul Edge fragment was slowing his aging process. Maxi would often joke that his enduring youthful looks made it easier for him to dress like a young man and "look cool".
Sensing that the time had come, Edge Master revealed to Maxi that Kilik was in grave danger. Kilik's only hope was to pass ownership of Kali-Yuga on to a young man by the name of Xiba. The problem was that Xiba was too young and immature to take on a quest of such importance on his own.
Maxi agreed to act as Xiba's guide, and began his journey to the west in order to save his best friend.[5]

Fighting Style[]

Maxi's fighting style resembles that of a Jeet Kune Do practitioner. He relies on short-range but very fast attacks that will put the opponent in a disadvantage. He also can use various fast and powerful kicks that will sometimes knock the opponent down on the ground. Experienced players can string together many hit combos in order to put pressure on the opponent, interrupt opponents, and actually make them fear attacking. However, despite being very fast and powerful, his fighting style has a few downsides. First off, if the opponent is on the edge of an arena, Maxi has a high chance of ringing himself out. To counter this, he has a couple throws that can move the opponent away from the edge and several moves that can ring out the opponent as well. Next, because he uses a pair of nunchaku, most of his attacks are short-ranged, often forcing himself to run closer to the opponent, leaving him open for attack. Maxi is regarded as being a mid-to-high tier character because of his speed, but also because of his high risk of ringing himself out and having to get closer to the opponent.

Soulcalibur IV[]

Shissen Karihadi[]

He uses the nunchaku fighting style that he learned in the Ryukyan Islands where he was raised.

Its unique characteristic is that it has very flowing style moves. As its name implies, there are seven stances from which an attack can suddenly come forth like a flash. Furthermore, Maxi has moves from other disciplines mixed in with his own.

That's proof of the fact that he continues to refine his own techniques as he gains experience from his life.

Soulcalibur V[]

Shissen Karihadi[]

The nunchaku technique known as Shissen Karihadi is comprised of seven basic stances. The rapid attack combinations blended with a variety of martial arts grant the fighter complete freedom to adapt to any situation.
The countless moves Maxi had refined for the purpose of vengeance had shaped the future for many young people.
Fixing his hair after it was tousled by the salty sea air, Maxi took a moment to recall the man he knew only as Zhang Wu, who had taught Maxi a lot about nunchaku techniques. Maxi remembered seeing the dark shadow of vengeance within the man's eyes, and knew his own eyes had looked the same way not too long ago.
As he watched some children cheer innocently at a flock of seagulls, Maxi swore an oath to himself. No matter how stained his hands had to get, Maxi would ensure that those children had a beautiful world to live in, a world where the sparkling hope in their eyes would never be taken away.

Costumes[]

Throughout the series, Maxi's 1P costumes have been a white jacket that exposes his chest, white pants and black boots with black hair. This reflects his life as a sailor. His 2P costumes are usually black and red with sometimes a scarf along with blonde hair.

Critical Finish[]

Rising Dragon of the Zodiac: In Maxi's Critical Finish, Maxi throws a few nunchaku blows to the opponent who is stunned and then thrown airborne by a palm strike. Maxi then leaps in the air and cries out "Rising Dragon of the Zodiac!" and delivers a fatal kick to the opponent's neck or ribs, ending the fight.

Critical Edge[]

Rampaging Dragon: Maxi punches his opponent twice, and finally blasts them with an elbow finisher. Like Pyrrha, if he misses one of the hits before the final blow, he will stop performing the special and will be open for an attack.

Weapon Arts[]

Weapon Arts are special moves in Soulcalibur: Lost Swords which act very similar to the Critical Edge system from Soulcalibur V.

  • Fury: A full version of this attack.
  • Hydra's Wrath: A combination of a Brave Edge attack called Hydra's Band, after which goes Mark of the Beast and his Twisted Loop finishes up this Weapon Art with Maxi saying "It ends here!".
  • Raging Dragon: It's his Rage of Pleasure.
  • Roaring Phoenix: An impressive combination of Hurricane, Dandy Surprise, Jolt Kick and Falling Sky.
  • Rampaging Dragon: This is Maxi's Critical Edge from Soulcalibur V, now capable of going to full length even on enemies in mid-air.
  • Fire and Brimstone: A fast combination of Hydra Talons, the first hit of his SCIV move called Snake's Tale, White Polar Lights, Rear Kick, Serpent's Pleasure and Dragon Cannon. It begins with the animation from his Critical Finish as he says "Get ready!"

Abilities[]

Maxi is a skilled and powerful warrior, being capable of besting the golem Astaroth on multiple occasions using his Nunchaku.

In the Soulcalibur manga he is capable of taking on a more powerful Ultimate Form.

Endings[]

Kilik was without words, and Xianghua looked on quietly. The winds blew and the clouds moved on as if they were oblivious to their mortal plight.
"It's been fun..." The clouds seemed to whisper his voice.

Soul Calibur IV Maxi's Ending

Maxi has obtained Soul Edge and can now finally destroy Astaroth. As Maxi steps forward to grab Soul Edge, an injured Kilik flies by Maxi and lands on the ground with a loud thud. Maxi, confused and in shock, turns around slowly to see Astaroth walking towards him with Xianghua under his right arm. "Give me Soul Edge!" Astaroth commands as he tosses Xianghua aside. "Man, you guys always need my help." Maxi says to his two injured friends, " I mean really, who's going to stop me after I defeat that monster with this evil sword?" Maxi picks up Soul Edge and feels the power enter his body. "Let's go, you freak!" Maxi yells as he charges towards Astaroth.

The words are described at the end of the sequence: "He could never be strapped down like the clouds guided by the winds and left like the clouds scattered by the winds."
