Soul Edge (Male), as was shown in Soulcalibur, this is one of the forms Soul Edge took while being wielded by Nightmare.
Soul Edge (Male) was originally part of a pair of longswords wielded by the pirate Cervantes. The other sword, Soul Edge (Female), would be shattered by Sophitia and the pirate would fall to Taki's blade.[1] The young knight defeated Inferno and grasped the handle of Soul Edge (Male)—which was in the form of a longsword—and trigger the Evil Seed, transforming Siegfried into Nightmare and the evil blade from a longsword into a zweihänder.
In Soulcalibur II, it appears as two of Nightmare’s weapons. Nightmare's default weapon, although labeled as Soul Edge, is the weapon in its damaged incomplete form, with various cracks along its blade and loose stringing flesh dangling from its body. Its original completed form, labeled as Soul Edge (Growth), can be unlocked as well. In Soulcalibur III, it again appears, but this time as the ultimate weapon of both Nightmare and Strife.

Description: Soul Edge is the legendary sword of Nightmare.
To some, it was the "Hero's Sword," and to others, to others, the "Sword of Immortality." Although the details of this legendary sword changed as its rumor traveled around the world, its true nature was unmistakably evil.
Nightmare was said to be a young warrior who was corrupted by taking possession of Soul Edge. The evil sword has a will of its own, and it transformed itself into a gigantic sword that would make the best use of the warrior's fighting experience.
Its single eye appeared enraptured whenever the grotesquely shaped sword was bathed in blood. The demonic blade manipulated its bearer to commit atrocities so that it could consume the souls of the innocent. Soul Edge's true purpose and intent remains to be discovered.

There are two different methods to obtain Nightmare's Soul Edge.
- Fight a total of 810 matches.
- Complete Nightmare's Tales of Souls after obtaining Steel Paddle, Soul Edge (Larvae) and Soul Edge (Cocoon).
Strife[]
There are two different methods to obtain Strife's Soul Edge:
- Fight a total of 1,000 matches.
- Defeat Strife in Chronicle 20 of Chronicles of the Sword.
Soulcalibur Legends[]
When Siegfried willingly reclaimed Soul Edge after killing the maddened court jester Iska, he gave his mind & soul to the weapon, transforming into a frightening demonic warrior called Nightmare. With much of its power restored, Soul Edge also transformed with him, once again revealing the eyeballs it once had.

Soul Edge... A sword that has left countless indelible scars on history. The cursed blade devours souls, and most warriors who have sought it out have only found a horrific death.
Its past is one of doom and destruction, and now it finds itself in the hands of the mentally unstable Siegfried. The troubled man fails to see that it controls him like a marionette, and he dances to its accursed tune.
Soul Edge takes the form of its "vessel's" preferred weapon—in Siegfried's case, the Zweihänder. This is so it can push the owner's power to the limit to better claim the blood and souls it craves.

The cursed sword Soul Edge has maintained the form of Siegfried's weapon, the Zweihänder. However, whether it has done this intentionally or not is unclear.
Inferno is the true form of Soul Edge, and what makes it so fearsome is its deep knowledge of fighting techniques, which allow it to use any weapon style with a phenomenal degree of skill. Though its power defies standard means of measurement, if you are comparing only skill with weaponry, it easily transcends that of any of its previous vessels.
Trivia[]
- This design is arguably the most-recognized form of Soul Edge. The sword maintained this form through four titles; Soulcalibur, Soulcalibur II, Soulcalibur III, and Soulcalibur VI.
- The design was used alongside Nightmare's Soulcalibur II design as part of the Project Soul logo.
- In Soulcalibur III, Nightmare automatically equips this weapon in Tales of Souls mode when fighting Abyss.
- In Soulcalibur V, Nightmare wields Soul Edge that closely resembles this version of the sword.
- The 2P variant from Soulcalibur II would be repurposed as Soul Edge (Cocoon) in Soulcalibur III and as Soul Edge α in Soulcalibur Legends.
