Takamatsu Castle, also called The Inundated Castle in other versions of Soulcalibur, is Mitsurugi and Arthur's stage in Soulcalibur. It is based on the real-life Siege of Takamatsu, orchestrated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi after he constructed a 3-kilometer bank around it in order to stop the flow of water and produce a flooding. Mitsurugi, as a trusted mercenary on the base of Mori's Murakami Navy, was assigned the defense of the castle during the conflict. The stage consists on a wooden raft amidst battle, with the castle as background and flaming arrows and cannonballs constantly flying around.
Profile[]
Mitsurugi proved himself as a soldier at Noshima Island, the main headquarters of the Mori Clan's Murakami Navy. Respected by his superiors, Mitsurugi was entrusted with the task of defending Takamatsu Castle at the front lines of the Mori Army.
Takamatsu Castle was considered difficult to conquer because it was surrounded by marshlands. However, a cunning enemy of the Mori named Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded the castle by flooding the area. Toyotomi constructed a levee around Takamatsu Castle and then released the river water from the rain-swollen Ashimori River, neutralizing the natural defense offered by the marshlands.
Both sides continue to engage in battles that end in stalemate. As the fighting rages on, Mitsurugi boards a raft to join his comrades on a battlefield with arrowed-filled skies.
Winter Variation[]
The water in the winter variation has instead frozen into solid ice and the castle has been covered in snow, which constantly falls during the fight. The ships in the background no longer fire any arrows or cannonballs.
Trivia[]
- In the Arcade and Japanese versions of Soulcalibur, the stage is called The Inundated Castle.
- A rearrangement of this stage theme "Duelists" was used in Soulcalibur VI E3 announcement trailer. The rearrangement is available in-game for the first time alongside the release of Season Pass 2, DLC 11 Setsuka, where it plays in Mitsurugi Side Story 5 during his decisive duel with Shugen Kokonoe.
- With the announcement of the night variant of Murakumo Shrine Grounds, the theme, later titled "Battleworn Soul", became selectable during regular versus battles.
