"Let's see which way the wind's blowing!"
— Talim

Talim (タリム, Tarimu) is a character in the Soul series of fighting games. She appeared in the game Soulcalibur VI, which marks her debut appearance in the new, rebooted Soulcalibur timeline.

She is nicknamed The Last Priestess of the Winds.[1]

Biography

Soulcalibur VI

The West’s attempt at colonizing the islands of Southeast Asia brought with it conflict. In the mountainous region of one particular island was a small village called the Village of the Wind Deity. Talim was born into the family of a shaman, and was raised as the Last Priestess of the Winds in accordance with their family’s beliefs. One day, a foreigner brough to the village a fragment of metal—a fragment of Soul Edge itself. Talim immediately sensed how dangerous it was and vowed to return the shard to where it belonged. However, her fellow villagers were against her decision, because it would result in the Last Priestess of the Winds losing her innocence. As such, Talim felt she had to prove herself to those around her.

The idyllic lifestyle of the Village of the Wind Deity was threatened by a fragment of the bearer of bad fortune, Soul Edge. The villagers were more puzzled than scared, however, threatened as they were more by the influence of the West. In an increasingly tumultuous world, Talim was still able to perform her duties well, and proved herself capable of carving her own path as the Last Priestess of the Winds. She promised her grandmother, Kalana, known as the Eldest One, that they would meet again, and left her island on a journey. The wind travels the world, and wherever Talim went, its gentle caress would soothe her soul.

Physical Appearance

Since the previous installments, Talim's intended young image and tribal accessories highlights her purity throughout the series, par with her selfless and pacifist personality in contrast to the Soul series cast.

Personality

As to the previous installments, Talim is strikingly meek, innocent, kind, moderate, and nice in contrast to the rest of the Soul Series cast, often attempting to dissuade opponents from fighting, and constantly showing mercy to her defeated enemies. Her comments often reveal self-doubt and worry.

She is also special in that she can hear the sound of wind to sense evil.

Costumes

Her outfit is a mix of her appearances from previous games: her main costumes from Soulcalibur II and Soulcalibur IV, and her alternate costume from Soulcalibur III.

Her Color 2 is blue tinted, akin to her main outfit's color from Soulcalibur III.

Her Color 3 outfit is pink-tinted.

Her Color 4 outfit is yellow and orange. This costume removes her hat and recolors her hair blonde.

Weapon & Style

A Southeast Asian fighting style that uses two elbows blades to perform quick combinations. Originating from a sword dance dedicated to the spirits of the wind, this style's graceful jumps and whirls make dodging attacks a breeze. The cyclonic Wind Charmer can initiate a combo; the Wind Sault is perfect for surprising a foe like a sudden gust; the gale-force Wind Fury unleashes a powerful strike-all these moves and more allow the fighter to harmonize with the wind, earning its protection and power.[2]

Syi Salika & Loka Luha

These elbow blades were originally designed for use in a festival dance. Talim, hailed as the "Last Priestess of the Winds," was taught how to dance with them from a young age, so these ancestral blades were rarely out of her hands. They are so sharp a careless warrior could easily harm themselves, but learning how to use them safely was part of Talim's training.

During the sword dance, Talim becomes one with nature, and her senses heighten to an almost superhuman degree. Guided by her blades, it almost appears as if she can see the future while she fights. Because of this mystical ability, as long as Talim has her elbow blades, no matter how intense the battle she can remain as calm as if she were simply dancing.

Wind Dance

On a small island in Southeast Asia, there exists a tribe who worships the wind. One of this tribe's primary methods of prayer is a sword dance, which requires both elegance and grace to perform. However, nature is not a gentle mistress, and the soothing basic forms of the sword dance often transition into violent twirls and wild leaps. Like the wind itself, the sword dance is sometimes a mild breeze, and sometimes a fierce gale.

The wind is both ceaseless and formless, and its worshippers believe that continual motion during prayer can bring you closer to it. A true master is considered to be one who can lose themselves entirely to the dance. The tribe believes that those who do have become one with the wind, and that this is the highest form of worship.

The Last Priestess of the Winds is a true master, and if she invokes the winds during her sword dance, it will obey her will and slice through opponents like a blade.

Critical Edge

Dancing Tempest: A critical edge where gliding through the air. It has a long reach and can evade her attacks while dealing damage to the opponent. If it strikes an airborne foe, it will deal additional hits and damage. Lastly, when this moves connects, it will transform into an attack throw and replenish the opponent's health. [3]
