Weapon type | Iaitō hidden in an oil paper parasol |

Ugetsu Kageuchi (雨月・影打?) is Setsuka's primary weapon. A hidden Iaito concealed in the handle of an oil-paper parasol, similar to a shikomizue (a cane sword).
Ugetsu Kageuchi, when directly translated, means "Rainy Moon, Shadow Strike". Setsuka uses a style of Japanese swordsman ship known as Iaijutsu, which is centered around the drawing, slashing, cleaning, and re-sheathing of the blade in as few motions as possible. The term Iai is commonly used synonymously with the term Batto. While there are certain implications within the Japanese language when using these terms, they are similar enough that many schools use them interchangeably, and the classification of a certain technique as Iai or Batto is usually a simple matter of preference. Setsuka's official profile states she uses battojutsu, but the listing of her weapon as an Iaito implies that she uses Iaijutsu.
Soulcalibur IV[]
Profile[]
Though a Battoujyutsu master, the man's duel with Heishiro Mitsurugi cost him his life. As he died, he gave a sword to his beloved ward and pupil. Wrapped in the kimono her teacher left her, Setsuka swore vengeance; to keep that secret safe, she took the sword to a certain smith and had him conceal it within an umbrella, clothing it in a mantle of elegance, just like herself.
Since the blade is a "kageuchi," or reject blade, somewhere there must be a superior "shinuchi." The name of the smith who made the blade is unknown.
Soulcalibur VI[]
In Setsuka's Colour 2 outfit, the canopy of the umbrella is coloured red. In her Colour 3 outfit, the canopy is coloured white. In her Colour 4 outfit, the umbrella looks similar to how it does in her default outfit except the shaft, the handle and the end tip has its colour changed from Sky Magenta to black.
Weapon Compendium description: A blade hewn by the Kokonoe Clan of Shinden Tsushima-Ryu Battoujyutsu. Though originally crafted as a sword concealed inside a staff, as it passed through many people's hands, it became the handle of a beautiful parasol. Ugetsu Kageuchi can be handled with ease by any master of battoujyutsu, so it is thought that its swordsmith was familiar with Tsushima-Ryu; however, their name has been lost to time.
It is common practice for a swordsmith to make a multiple blades when forging a new katana. The best one is then labeled the "true blade" and gifted to the customer, while all the rest, called "shadow blades," are kept on hand. Incidentally, this Ugestsu Kageuchi is one such shadow blade, which means a true form exists as well.
Profile[]
A blade passed down through the Kokonoe clan of Shinden Tsushima-Ryu. It was once a faithful companion to many generations of Kokonoe warriors, but one man's doubts about the clan's intentions separated this blade from its origins. Just before his death, he handed it over to his disciple, Setsuka.
She decided to decorate it in bright colors to remind her of her master. Her memories are held safely in her hands, hidden by the colorful pattern. Whenever she swings her sword, she feels as if her late master is beside her.
This particular blade is a "shadow blade," which means there also exists a "true blade" version of Ugetsu Kageuchi. When a swordsmith forges a katana, it is customary to make multiple blades, then select the best one to send to the customer as the "true blade." The others are kept and labeled "shadow blades."
The true version of Ugetsu Kageuchi is said to be the greatest work of its swordsmith's lifetime. Three generations ago, it was kept as a sacred item in Murakumo Shrine, but someone has since taken it out. Its whereabouts are now unknown.
Trivia[]
- In the new rebooted timeline of Soulcalibur VI, Setsuka's default color of Ugetsu Kageuchi is black similar to the 2P variant in Soulcalibur III. It can still be customized to resemble the red one from previous games.
- The 2P variant of Ugetsu Kageuchi in Soulcalibur III became Suitou in Soulcalibur IV and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, and Peach of Immortality in Soulcalibur VI. Ridicule, also from Soulcalibur III, would become the 2P variant of Ugetsu Kageuchi in Soulcalibur IV and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, before later becoming Señora in Soulcalibur VI.
