Valentine (バレンタイン?), also sometimes called Ivy Blade (アイヴィーブレード?), is Ivy's primary weapon that is a snake sword with the ability to expand and contract at will. Ivy performed extensive research to find a suitable weapon to aid in her quest to destroy Soul Edge. She based its design on an Asian multi-segmented whip. The first attempts were mechanical whips, based on mechanical principles, but she rejected those ideas and began using black magic to create the perfect weapon. She summoned the hand of Nightmare to give life to the "Ivy Blade", but she was ignorant that this power was from Soul Edge, the same power she sought to destroy. After she found out her blood and weapon were also linked with the wicked sword, she changed her weapon's name to "Valentine".

Profile[]
Ivy, a skilled alchemist, created this living snake sword specifically to destroy Soul Edge. Able to transform into sword or whip at will, the living weapon even acts of its own volition to protect its mistress. But the power of the cursed sword was used in its creation.
When Ivy learned that the blood of the cursed sword flowed through her veins, she was thrown into a despair that lasted years. She began to detest her own weapon, which shared her same evil fate. Eventually, however, she emerged from her self-imposed prison. She renamed her sword Valentine, and made it a symbol of her will to deny the imperatives of fate.

Profile: When Ivy discovered that Soul Edge had been responsible for the death of her beloved adoptive parents, she created the snake sword using her knowledge of alchemy for the sole purpose of destroying the cursed blade. The sword possesses a life of its own and can separate into eight segments according to Ivy's will, coiling itself into different shapes.
When Ivy used Valentine to defeat Cervantes 17 years ago, the snake sword absorbed all of the souls Cervantes had harvested, granting Ivy's weapon a terrifying amount of power. These souls were then used to fill Ivy's soul vessel.
With its newly acquired power, Valentine was able to protect its master from every enemy, including time itself. Ivy had gained the very thing her father had died trying to achieve: immortality. Does this not make Valentine a sword equal to the legendary Soul Edge...?

A one-handed magic sword that can transform into a whip. It is loyal to its owner and will cut down all who stand in her way. Seeing the way it attacks its opponent, you would think it was... alive.

- The Valentine is alive, just like Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, making it the third weapon to have its own life force.
- It was not actually Ivy's first weapon. According to Soulcalibur Legends and Soulcalibur II, the Kaleidoscope was her first weapon.
- It was actually created by Count Valentine, Ivy's step-father. It was given to Ivy by Leonardo, who is supposedly wikipedia:Leonardo_da_VinciLeonardo da Vinci.
- Ivy once called it the Ivy Blade, but renamed it "Valentine", because they were connected to Soul Edge, a weapon that Ivy sought to destroy.
- In the beginning of Soulcalibur, it was a lifeless weapon, but with the summoning of Nightmare's deformed hand by Ivy, it came to life.
- Even though it is a living weapon, Valentine, unlike Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, does not have the ability to shape-shift, but can stretch out in every attack.
- Valentine was destroyed in Ivy's Soulcalibur IV ending. However, it was not canon and the weapon returns in Soulcalibur V.
- In Soulcalibur II, this weapon is referred to as Valentine (Ivy Blade).
- In Tales Of Vesperia, Valentine is a Whip used by Rita Mordio using it's original name Ivy Blade. She first receives this weapon when speaking with her fellow mages about using mana to power weapons instead of aer.
- The 2P variant of Valentine would later become Proxy in Soulcalibur VI.
