Yoshimitsu (吉光) is a character in the both Tekken and Soul series of fighting games, making an appearance in Soulcalibur, Soulcalibur II, Soulcalibur III, Soulcalibur IV, and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny. This version is Yoshimitsu I, and is sometimes referred to as Yoshi. In Soulcalibur V, the original Yoshimitsu passed the mantle to a new ninja to follow his legacy as the new leader of the Manji clan, therefore titled Yoshimitsu II.

What lies in his soul is Vengeance.

Biography[]

Soulcalibur[]

Oda Nobunaga, the daimyo of Owari, sought the power of the Manji clan and invited its chief to Azuichi castle. Due to his advanced age, the clan's chief sent the strongest warrior, Yoshimitsu, of the clan on his behalf. As expected, Nobunaga requested the allegiance of the Manji clan, but the Manji clan preferred to remain hidden. After a few days' stay at the castle, the fighter politely denied Nobunaga's request and returned to his village.

Upon his return, Yoshimitsu found his beloved village in ruins. Nobunaga had prepared an army in anticipation of the clan's refusal to serve him. Yoshimitsu attempted a battle against Nobunaga, but he was no match for the army or Nobunaga and lost his arm, which he replaced with a wooden prosthetic. Yoshimitsu set out across the sea in search of the "Ultimate Weapon", Soul Edge, so that he could take his revenge against Lord Nobunaga.

But during his journey, he came across many horrible scenes left behind by the Azure Knight, Nightmare. In his meditation, he concluded that if he were to give in to his hatred, he would be no better than either Oda Nobunaga or Nightmare. But even with that realization in his mind, he continued to pursue the Soul Edge nevertheless. When Yoshimitsu finally reached Ostrheinsburg Castle, it was devoid of any signs of life.

Soulcalibur II[]

Upon leaving the castle, he sensed that the evil energy there had somehow transferred a similar energy into his katana. So he left on a journey to rid his blade of the corrupted energy. Unfortunately, he became careless one day and passed out, worn from trying to quell the corruption; during his sleep, the katana had been stolen by a thief--Voldo, who had mistaken it for Soul Edge.

Yoshimitsu did not want the evil energy to fall into the wrong hands, so he set out to retrieve it. He infiltrated the legendary Money Pit of "the Merchant of Death", Vercci, and, completely by chance, found his katana alongside a fragment of Soul Edge, both emanating similar evil energies. Yoshimitsu decided that if there was another object in the world with the same evil as his katana, which he had now named "Yoshimitsu", it mustn't be allowed to exist. And so he embarked on yet another journey, set on destroying the cursed Soul Edge.

Yoshimitsu eventually discovered that the fragments were spread around the earth, and that he alone could never destroy them all while also helping those in need. So he returned to Japan and recruited ruffians from around the land, soon forming a band of chivalrous thieves, known as the Manjitou. Thanks to his skill and ability, Yoshimitsu soon became head of the clan.

Soulcalibur III[]

One day, Yoshimitsu devised a plan for a grand robbery: the entire group would infiltrate a wealthy usurer's mansion during the annual festival and take everything he owned, which included a fragment of Soul Edge. Unfortunately, the plan failed and a vanguard force was wiped out in front of the treasure room. The remaining clan members eventually freed their captured comrades, but they gave a strange report to Yoshimitsu: the fragment of Soul Edge in the mansion's treasure room was gone, which was puzzling, considering that the vanguard force that Yoshimitsu sent supposedly never made it inside. Also, the body of the leader of the vanguard force had never been found.

Some members of the clan thought that betrayal was the only explanation, but Yoshimitsu wouldn't believe that. The man, his second-in-command, was good on both his combat skill and humanity and he had great expectations of him. Also, the wounds on his men were not dealt with a normal blade. He spoke to his men and instructed them to find the fragment, stating that they would also find the man. He would accompany them in the hunt in order to find the truth.

After a long journey, he found the man who told them that Tira, a servant of Soul Edge, had ambushed them and taken the fragment of Soul Edge.

Soulcalibur IV[]

Yoshimitsu managed to save the life of his officer, but then saw Tira with a flock of black ravens and wondered where she would be heading.

While taking care of the wounded officer, Yoshimitsu called the rest of the clan, telling them that they would attack Ostrheinsburg, destroy the evil, and go for Soul Edge. The Manjitou's greatest scheme was about to happen.

One year before the events of Soulcalibur V, Yoshimitsu heard rumors about Cervantes being back from the dead and traveled West to confront him, but he was getting old and was mortally wounded. In order to prevent his possessed blade from spiraling out of control, Yoshimitsu was forced to pass on his name to a successor. The person chosen was a young Manji ninjutsu user, who had grown up in the Fûma village. This young man became the new Yoshimitsu by slaying the original Yoshimitsu and claiming the sword as it's new wielder, though he lost his right arm in the process.

Soulcalibur V[]

Planted firmly in the earth before the warrior stood a katana; purple flames rippled and danced about it.

The sword had a name: Yoshimitsu. It was a demonic blade, steeped in the evil of Soul Edge and ever thirsty for blood.

The sword's last owner, too, had been called Yoshimitsu—by bestowing his own name upon the blade, he had sealed its evil power. But he had been cut down just moments earlier by his dearest disciple, a young warrior well-versed in the arts of Manji Ninjitsu. The disciple made a vow: He would see through the mission Yoshimitsu had begun.

He reached out and gripped the sword. The flames licked at his hand, but his voice did not waver as he called out:

"I am Yoshimitsu the Second! Calm thyself!"

The flames subsided; the sword had accepted him as the new Yoshimitsu.

Only one man was allowed to carry that name; the title was earned by slaying its previous holder. And so it was that a new warrior, overcoming sorrow and doubt, would continue the fight against evil.

Yoshimitsu, leader of the chivalrous Manji Clan, savior of the weak, enemy of the strong—it was a name that brought hope to people.

Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul[]

(Non-canon)

After the player and Cassandra finds Yoshimitsu's hideout, he attacks the player but is defeated. Realizing they are not enemies, he tells them a story about the Fu-Ma ninja Toki and directs them to the Hoko Temple to find him.

Profile[]

Soulcalibur[]

Yoshimitsu was the only survivor of the Manji Ninja Clan, after it was attacked by the samurai lord Oda Nobunaga.

Yoshimitsu lost his right arm during the battle against Lord Oda, but that did not stop him from crossing the sea to find Soul Edge, rumored to be the ultimate weapon in all existence. Yoshimimtsu wanted the weapon to take his revenge against Nobunaga.

During his travels, he came across horrific atrocities left behind by a knight in azure armor. He sensed the hatred and despair of the knight's victims and reflected on his situation.

"Vengeance will be mine, but if I continue along this path, I will be no better than Nobunaga or the azure knight..."

Even as this moral dilemma gnawed at his soul, he continued his search for the sword of vengeance.

Chapter XII: The First Mechanized Ninja[1]
In a time forgotten, there was a village of ninja, called the Manji clan, hidden away in the forests at the base of Mt. Fuji.

One day, a lord who sought the power of the Manji clan invited its chief to his castle. Due to his advanced age the clan's chief sent the strongest warrior of the clan on behalf of him. As expected, the lord requested the allegiance of the Manji clan. But the Manji clan preferred to remain hidden in these troubled times and refused to join in the era's petty wars. After a few days stay at the castle, the fighter politely denied the lord's request and returned to his village.

Upon his return he found his beloved village in ruins. The lord had prepared an army in anticipation of the clan's refusal to serve him. The reason the lord had stalled his request and forced Yoshimitsu to stay at the castle was to buy time for his ruthless ambush.

"Either they shall serve me or I will strike down every last one of them! They are too powerful to remain uncontrolled. Destroy the survivor as well, though he may be the clans strongest fighter he is but one alone."

As the only remaining member of his once proud clan, he tried to devise a plan to avenge the deaths of his beloved clansmen as he fought off attacks from the lord's men. But he knew he could never match the lord's strength alone. His plan for revenge failed and in the lord's brutal counter attack he lost his right hand. All he could manage with his artificial hand was escape into a secret underground water vein only his clan knew about. Days of drifting in the cold and dark cavern reminded him of a tale of the ultimate weapon said to exist across the seas.

"With this weapon of legend I could crush all my enemies! I never believed this tale in the past, but now I feel it may be the only way left for me!"

Unable to shake the thoughts from his mind, he left to the west in his quest for the Soul Edge. During his travels, he heard the rumor of the Azure Knight and saw the remains and tragedies the knight had caused. He felt the despair, hatred, and desires for revenge born from the knight's evil and thought, "I can never give up my quest for revenge, but what is the difference between the lord and I, or the Azure Knight? What will be left after my bloody quest for revenge? Is this what the souls of my clan desire?"

Something in the man called Yoshimitsu began to change.

Soulcalibur II[]

There was once a ninja clan that was massacred at the hands of a vengeful lord. Yoshimitsu, the sole survivor of that clan, swore to avenge the fallen. He did not give up even after losing his right arm during an encounter. Yoshimitsu traveled across the sea, following a rumor about an ultimate weapon.

When he finally reached Europe, he came upon a series of mysterious killings that wreaked havoc and spread terror across Europe. This reminded him of the slaughter of his clan, and thus Yoshimitsu changed his plan.

Yoshimitsu followed the trail of the mass murderer to Ostrheinsburg Castle, but the castle was devoid of any signs of life. After Yoshimitsu left the castle, he sensed the presence of a sinister energy dwelling in his katana. Yoshimitsu left on a journey to quell the negative energy within the sword.

But unexpectedly, someone stole the sword. Knowing that only misfortune would result if the cursed sword fell into the wrong hands, Yoshimitsu traveled the continent in search of his weapon.

During his travels, he devoted himself to serving the weak and underprivileged. Four years passed, and Yoshimitsu devised a scheme to plunder treasures in order to give money to the poor.

The tomb Yoshimitsu infiltrated belonged to a man who was known as the "Merchant of Death." He was able to reach the treasures without encountering the rumored guardian of the tomb. And there he found his long-lost sword, along side a metal fragment that emanated the same evil energy as his katana.

He left the tomb with his sword and metal shard in hand. If there were other things that possess the same evil energy within, it was up to him to find them and rid them from this world. Without a doubt in his mind, Yoshimitsu left on a journey.

"'Enter,' he said, but no one knocked when the light turned on." -Tristan Tzara, Où boivent les loups

There was once a ninja clan that was massacred at the hands of a vengeful lord. Yoshimitsu, the sole survivor of that clan, swore to avenge the fallen, but was no match for the army that protected the lord. Helpless and alone against the enemy, Yoshimitsu the avenger was chased off. Although he lost one arm during his harrowing escape, he managed to cheat death only because of his considerable ninjutsu abilities and a great deal of luck.

Despite this experience, Yoshimitsu could not give up his desire to avenge his clan. He saw opportunity in a rumor that circulated within Japan during that time and decided to travel overseas. Soul Edge, the ultimate sword—if only he possessed that sword, he would surely be able to cut down an army at will.

Yoshimitsu traveled across the continent, chasing down rumors of the sword. When he finally reached Europe, he came upon the aftermath of a massacre. During that time, a series of mysterious killings wreaked havoc and spread terror across Europe. The bloody carnage before Yoshimitsu’s eyes reminded him of the slaughter of his clan.

He thought to himself, “No matter what the reasons may be, murderous hatred only begets deep sorrow and retaliation. And I have this hatred within me as well. Would my clan approve of my vengeance if they were still alive? …Nonsense! Why am I doubting myself?!”

Yoshimitsu cut down the budding doubt within him, and continued his quest for Soul Edge. But as he continued his journey, he encountered many remains of massacres, one after another. With each ensuing encounter, the doubt within his heart took root. It was only a matter of time that Yoshimitsu was on the trail of the man responsible for these killings.

Nightmare…the man responsible for countless killings…Yoshimitsu followed his trail to Ostrheinsburg Castle, but the castle was enveloped in silence and devoid of any signs of life. Although there were traces of evil energy in the castle, there were no clues about the whereabouts of the mass murderer. Yoshimitsu eventually left the castle behind him.

Soon after his visit to the castle, he noticed something strange. Yoshimitsu sensed the presence of a sinister energy dwelling within his katana. Perhaps the evil spiritual energy that lingered in the castle was drawn to the sword because it had been used to shed blood.

Yoshimitsu decided to give his spirit-sword his name, “Yoshimitsu,” and swore to quell the negative energy within his sword. The spiritual energy within him that sustained his vengeance until now had a new purpose. The conflict and doubt within Yoshimitsu was finally resolved, and he achieved enlightenment through this new task.

But something unexpected happened.

One night, Yoshimitsu became careless and fell into deep slumber after exhausting his energies on neutralizing the negative spirit within his sword. During his sleep, some intruder used the cover of night to steal his sword

There was no way that the spiritual energy of malevolent hatred and resentment within the sword would dissipate in a day or two. Only misfortune would result if the katana fell into the wrong hands.

While Yoshimitsu traveled the continent in search of his sword, he devoted his life to serving the weak and the underprivileged. Four years passed, and he devised a plan- an attempt to close the gap, even a little, between the haves and the have-nots. His scheme involved the plunder of treasures from the Vercci’s tomb—Vercci was once a wealthy man who was also known as the “Merchant of Death.” It was rumored that a vast fortune was stored in his tomb.

Yoshimitsu used all of his skills and abilities to infiltrate the tomb, also known as the Money Pit. As described in rumors, the interior of the tomb was rife with traps. But he was able to reach the treasures without encountering the “Guardian” of the tomb, whom Yoshimitsu was vigilant against. A faint smile unconsciously crept across his face- the riches waiting for his taking were beyond his wildest imagination.

His smile faded when he found something amongst the stockpiles of treasures…his lost sword. And his face became graver when he discovered a throne enshrined in one of the rooms deep within the Money Pit.

Upon the throne was a metal fragment that emanated the same evil aura as his beloved sword.

Shortly after this discovery, Yoshimitsu left the Money Pit with his namesake sword and the metal fragment in hand.

Yoshimitsu thought, “If there are other things that possess this evil within them, they must be found and collected. The tragedies caused by this evil must never be allowed to happen again.”

Now, there was no more doubt clouding Yoshimitsu’s mind. Neither did the cursed items in his possession cast a shadow upon the path that he chose to take. [2]

Soulcalibur III[]

After retrieving his sword, Yoshimitsu devised a plan to destroy the fragments of Soul Edge and all those items that had been tainted by their power, while simultaneously fighting to protect the weak.

He returned to Japan and gathered ruffians from throughout the land. They would crush the strong and defend the weak, and at the same time locate and destroy the fragments of the cursed sword. It was the birth of an organization of chivalrous thieves called the Manjitou.

Yoshimitsu formulated a grand plan to steal a fragment of Soul Edge and other treasure that was said to lie within the mansion of a wealthy man.

Unfortunately, the scheme ended in failure.

The vanguard force that had been sent after the fragment was wiped out. As a result, the chain of command at the scene collapsed, and the operation ended in a dramatic failure in which many members of the Manjitou were captured or killed.

From accounts of those they rescued, and from other information as well, it appeared that the captain of the vanguard force attacked his own men by surprise and fled with the fragment.

Yoshimitsu could not believe that that man would betray them. He was a man that Yoshimitsu had placed great hopes on as second in command.

"Findest the fragment. When thou findest it, thou shalt surely findest him as well...Dismissed."

At this brief command, the Manjitou silently went into action once more. Sensing the presence of the cursed sword behind this event, Yoshimitsu set out to discover the truth.

"Those who follow the will of the heavens, follow the will of righteousness."
-"Will of Heaven," Mo Zi

Yoshimitsu had set out on his journey to recover his sword and to destroy all of the items that had been tainted by the evil sword. Unfortunately, those items--including the fragments of the evil sword--had already been scattered to the corners of the earth. Finding and destroying them himself was impossible. Not only that, but while he was concerning himself with the cursed sword fragments, he wouldn't be able to spend time protecting the weak.
As things stood now, he was at a dead end. Faced with this situation, Yoshimitsu devised a plan.
He returned to Japan and recruited ruffians from throughout the land into an organized group of thieves. It was the birth of an organization of chilvalrous thieves called the Manjitou.
Using his exceptional combat skill, gifted decisiveness, and ability to put unconventional plans into action, Yoshimitsu became the head of the Manjitou and skillfully organized the group of outcasts. While stealing riches from wealthy nobles and merchants and distributing them to the poor, they destroyed the fragments of the evil weapon that lay scattered throughout the land. It was not an easy task, but with the power of the Manjitou and its carefully-selected, few-but-powerful members, his dream was no longer impossible.
One day, Yoshimitsu devised a robbery greater than any which had come before. During an annual festival, the group would infiltrate the mansion of a famously wealthy usurer and take everything he had. There was also information indicating that a fragment of Soul Edge was hidden in the money-lender's mansion. A careful plan was drawn up, and a massive operation involving the entire Manjitou was put into action.
Unfortunately, the plan failed. The vanguard force sent in specifically to target the fragment was attacked and wiped out in front of the treasure room. Yoshimitsu, who was leading a decoy group to distract the guards, did not learn of this until it was too late. The news that the Manjitou's best men had been eliminated destroyed the chain of command. In the end, half of theclan failed to escape and were either captured or killed.
Although many clanmembers were dispirited after this crushing defeat, they still had to save their captured comrades. Yoshimitsu led his remaining forces in a rescue operation. The jailbreak was a success, but the clanmembers he saved gave him an unexpected report. The fragment of the cursed sword had disappeared from the money-lender's treasure trove. This news puzzled Yoshimitsu, because the vanguard force supposedly never made it inside the treasure room.
To add insult to injury, information arrived that the body of the man to whom he had entrusted the vanguard force had not been found.
"A betrayal..." murmured someone in the group. It was certainly true that one explanation for what had happened would be that the leader of the vanguard force had attacked his men by surprise and had run off with the fragment. But Yoshimitsu couldn't believe that the man he had entrusted would do something like that. The vanguard leader had been exceptional in both his combat skill and his humanity. As his second-in-command, Yoshimitsu had carried great expectations for him.
Yoshimitsu spoke softly to the uneasy men.
"Wait. We knowest not for certain it was his work."
"But, the wounds on those that were attacked..." The men responded. The wounds on the bodies of the vangard force were not normal cuts like those dealt by blades.
"Yes. We wilt dealest with this matter. Findest the fragment. When thou findest it, thee wilt surely findest him as well." If the truth was being concealed in darkness, then the only thing to do was to search for it and drag it into the light. "I wilt goest as well. Dismissed." At this short command, the Manjitou went silently into action once more.

He could not allow the dark influence of the cursed sword to stay free. He himself had once desired that power for the sake of revenge. Is the one seeking it his subordinate, or was it someone else entirely? In order to discover the truth, Yoshimitsu joined the hunt.[3]

Soulcalibur IV[]

A band of chivalrous thieves known as the Manjitou traveled the world on behalf of the less fortunate. At the moment, their leader, Yoshimitsu, was in a valley enclosed by tall mountains that overlooked Europe. He had lost several good men in their last attempt to collect a piece of Soul Edge. Meanwhile, the shard itself had vanished, dashing any hopes of success. At the same time, one of his officers had gone missing as well, and the subsequent search had led Yoshimitsu west across the continent, to this valley.

He had found his officer severely wounded and saved his life--and then he saw the girl, radiant with evil, and the flock of black-winged birds in her service, If a monster like that stole the shard, where would it head? Soul Edge crept back into Yoshimitsu's thoughts. He had formed the Manjitou to break the cursed sword's cycle of evil and protect the people from the ravages of war. It seemed he would have to destroy the menace at its source.

While tending to his officer's injuries, Yoshimitsu summoned the rest of the Manjitou and continued his reconnaissance. As information flowed in from across the land, Yoshimitsu parsed it and began to form a bold and elaborate plan. They would smite the evil forces in Ostrheinsburg who wished malice on mankind, and go after Soul Edge.

Yoshimitsu issued orders to each of his men in turn; the Manjitou's greatest campaign ever was about to commence.

Whenever the world falls into chaos, none suffer more than the poor. Thus it was that a band of chivalrous thieves known as the Manjitou traveled the world, relieving the wealthy of the riches they hoarded and raiding their treasure-laden tombs on behalf of the less fortunate.

At the moment, Yoshimitsu, their leader, tarried in a valley enclosed by tall mountains overlooking Europe, waiting for his men to assemble. Yoshimitsu had lost several good companions in their last attempt to collect a piece of Soul Edge, and all for naught; the shard itself had vanished, dashing any hope of success. At the same time, one of his officers—a man Yoshimitsu trusted greatly—had gone missing as well. The subsequent search had led Yoshimitsu west across the continent, to this valley.

Yoshimitsu let his thoughts lead him back to when he had first set foot in these lands and saw the girl dancing in the moonlight. She had radiated evil from the giant, blood-soaked ring blade she carried to her flock of black-winged servants, who had seemed to melt into the dark of night. And then, during the brief moment a passing cloud had hung over the moon, she had vanished. Yoshimitsu had spotted his officer and ran to his side.

"Chief, forgive me... I failed you." Every breath came as a gasp.

"No," replied Yoshimitsu. "I caught a glimpse of her. There was nothing human about that one. You've done me proud just by staying alive." The girl's eyes had sickened Yoshimitsu the most, the way they'd glistened with evil. He had not dared peer through those windows to see what black heart possessed that mad mistress of ravens. Now, if a monster like her had stolen the shard, where would she head next? Soul Edge crept back into Yoshimitsu's thoughts.

He spent the next several days rescuing his officer from the brink of death. Meanwhile, the man's reports confirmed Yoshimitsu's fears. The girl had treated her pursuer with scorn; rather than attempting to shake him off, she had tried to provoke him on more than one occasion. Then, during one of these exchanges, the officer had heard Soul Edge's name escape form her lips. He had continued to chase her to this valley, but despite being one of Manjitou's most able warriors, he had not been prepared when the girl suddenly decided to whirl about and take the offensive.

Soul Edge, the cursed sword. Those words held such an ominous ring. Yoshimitsu recalled his last search for the blade, how it had been paved with rage and terror and despair. He had formed the Manjitou to break Soul Edge's cycle of negative power and protect people from the ravages of war. He had done his best, but now it seemed he would have to destroy this menace at its source.

Tending his officer's injuries had cost Yoshimitsu much time, but he used the delay to summon the rest of the Manjitou to continue reconnaissance. Where was the cursed sword? What were the grotesque monsters under its control doing now? As information flowed in from across the land, Yoshimitsu analyzed it and began to form a bold and elaborate plan.

And now, his men were beginning to gather.

Yoshimitsu issued orders to each of them in turn. First they would strike the evil forces in Ostrheinsburg who wished malice on mankind. Then they would go after Soul Edge. The Manjitou's greatest campaign ever was about to commence.[4]

Soul Calibur IV Yoshimitsu's Ending

As a defeated Algol lies on the floor, Yoshimitsu walks up to him and says, "Thou who has brought so much pain and suffering into the world, shall not be forgiven." The screen cuts to black and we hear Yoshimitsu's sword make contact. It is then revealed that the sword has been pushed into the ground near Algol with Yoshimitsu above in his 'Flea' stance. Algol asks "You would show mercy to your opponent?" Yoshimitsu replies "the sword is the true evil, not thee. If none can know what lies ahead, losing one's way is just human nature. Grudges may remain, but None has the right to blame thee." Yoshimitsu then flies away.

The text-only epilogue states: "He destroyed the evil, but his battle does not end. His ideal to save the weak transcends history and lives on today."

Personality[]

Yoshimitsu is an honorable Ninja, holding a deep hatred against Oda Nobunaga and those who slaughtered his original clan. He harbors a comical personality when he is talking or fighting against his opponents. Yoshimitsu seems to despise Tira, because she killed one of his Manji-clan members and will stop at nothing to avenge the deaths of the innocents who were killed in cold blood, he also helps the poor and unfortunate, by giving gold for them.

  • Stages[]

    Water Labyrinth (SC)[]

Japan is a lush and green land and large veins, such as this one, gather the snow and rain from the ground. These veins form a network throughout Japan much like the veins in the human body. It is said that it takes one year for water to be absorbed one meter into the earth. Thus the water in this deep vein has travel for many years and is deathly cold and ghostly clear. The soft pale blue stones create an illusion around the walls, broken only by patches of warm green moss. Newly empowered by the Evil Seed the vile ghost Gel-o-Fury shattered the seals in the bamboo forest and made its way into this vein. Taki challenged the ghost several times in this complex cave. Toki's assassins, while chasing Taki, could not resist Gel-o-Fury's aura and were absorbed into the great ghost. As Gel-o-Fury grew in power Taki became convinced that the ghost was planning to exit the vein in Kyoto within the Buddha Hall of the Hoko Temple. She went ahead and planned to ambush the ghost in the hall.

(Note: Known as Water Vein in the Arcade version.)

Money Pit - Top Tier (SC2)[]

This deep chasm is both the storehouse and the tomb of the Italian merchant of death, Vercci. This place, built on a nameless island in the Mediterranean Sea, is renowned to grave robbers as the Money Pit. Countless booby-traps, including a water trap based on the tides, line the pit, but the most feared deterrent is the enigmatic guardian that awaits within. None who have sought the treasures have ever returned. This platform is the top level of the Money Pit, located near the entrance opening. But grave robbers must be wary, for one missed step means certain death down the chasm. They may get to the treasure at the bottom, but it is meaningless if they are dead.

(Note: Yoshimitsu shares this stage with Voldo.)

Sacred Mt. Fuji - Lava Bed (SC3)[]

The sacred mountain, Mt. Fuji, has been regarded as the realm of Gods since ancient times. At its base spreads a great forest that blocks the path of those who would enter. Beneath it lies an underground waterway that carries spiritual energy to every corner of Japan. Also beneath its surface flows a layer of lava. There' one can find a scorching hell hot enough to instantly vaporize the cold water that periodically flows in. This sacred mountain is the most definitely not sleeping peacefully, but is an active volcano pulsing with heat. Anyone who sees this sight will understand in an instant that this is a magnificence far beyond human power, that only Mother Nature could create. It is the very pulse of the earth itself, filled with power.

    Critical Finish[]

Glimpse of Heaven and Hell: Yoshimitsu slashes his opponent's abdomen, knocking them to the floor, spins around them, pauses, and finally slices them down in a traditional samurai execution. Autumn leaves fall down as he wipes his blade with his sleeve. Ultimately, one out of 7 different kanji appears, all of them in a different color theme and sometimes with different sound effects (one version features the same effect as in Tira's Critical Finish, but no kanji at all). A Japanese Shakuhachi can be heard throughout the Critical Finish. In Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, only one kanji out of the seven can be seen.

    Relationships[]

    • Had his beloved katana stolen by Voldo in Soulcalibur II, and shares a Destined Battle with him in Soulcalibur II.
    • Some members of his clan were murdered by Tira in Soulcalibur III, and he shares a Destined Battle with her in Soulcalibur III.
    • It was finally revealed in Soulcalibur V that "Yoshimitsu" is a legacy inherited each generation by a ninja that becomes the new leader of the Manji clan.
    • Mortally wounded by Cervantes before the events of Soulcalibur V.
    • Passed on his name and sword to his disciple, who then struck him down to inherit the blade, losing his arm in the process (though it is not explained how and why he lost his arm).
